Thanks to a hefty increase in sales of its TSX and TL sedans, Acura posted record sales of 13,981 in January, a 2.3 percent increase over January 2005. The increase in sedan sales mask decreases from January of last year of its MDX (-2.9 percent) and its RL (-43.6 percent). MDX sales, despite a small drop, have remained surprisingly strong considering consumers' aversion to SUVs given the state of gas prices.
Acura's parent company, Honda Motor Company, also reported a record month, posting a 20.7 percent increase over January of 2005, bolstered by a surge in sales of the all-new Honda Civic as well as strong light truck sales.
