George Barris cleans out his closet

A recent Bonhams' auction in L.A. featured some of the most iconic automobiles built by George Barris for the big and small screen in recent history. This was your chance to buy a genuine "General Lee" Charger, a KITT Firebird and the 1946 Ford in which John Travolta and Olivia Newton-John flew off into the sunset in the movie Grease. According to Motor Trend, other cars on the block included the Beverly Hillbillies jalopy from the 1993 movie, a DMC DeLorean in full Back to the Future trim (1.21 jigawatts!) and various tuner cars from The Fast and The Furious.

Barris, an icon himself in specialty auto design, is one of the coolest car guys ever to grace a bucket seat. I had the pleasure of meeting him in person a few years ago at the Detroit Autorama where he ignored me and spent the better part of a day hitting on my hottie boss. Rock on, dude.
