2005 Mazda3 SP23: Autoblog First Look

Mazda rolls out a special edition of their popular Mazda3 for the Chicago Auto Show. Available in both 4 and 5 door configurations, the SP23 is powered by a 2.3-liter 160-hp MZR engine. Outside the SP23 gets high-gloss finish 17-inch alloys, unique extended side sills, rain sensing windshield wipers, automatic on/off headlights and SP23 badges. It is only available in Carbon Gray Mica. Inside, Mazda outfitted the 3 with leather heated seats and piano-gloss instrument panel trim and steering wheel inserts. Audio system upgrades include a seven-speaker Bose sound system with a digital amp and custom subwoofer that pumps out 222 watts of power. Six-disc in dash CD changer and optional Sirius radio is available. Xenon High-Intensity Discharge (HID) headlights, a Tire Pressure Monitoring System, ABS and a theft-deterrent security system round out the package. A four-speed automatic with manual-shift mode is available. That's quite an upgrade for this little car. No word from Mazda on pricing. More pictures at the link.
