Detroit Auto Show: Ford concepts

Ford had all of its concepts out on the floor this morning so it was nice to see the weirdness up close. The most weird of course is the SYN-us, which from the interview J Mays gave this morning on local TV is a "tongue-in cheek" design. I don't know if that was the case before the unprecedented ridicule it has received, even by the guy interviewing Mays on TV. It is completely illogical and like concepts of old will probably never see the light of day.

The GR-1 has undergone a transformation from the slick design shown in California a few months ago. Now it has a body of forged aluminum. This aircraft design looks nice, but you beeter be able to not only afford this car but to have a full time buffer on staff to keep the smudge marks off. It?s certainly sexy enough and the gull-wing doors still seem cool no matter what the car.

My favorite though is the Fairlane. Another nugget from that Mays interview was the fact that they had old-money, Hamptons in mind when crafting the exterior. That explains the Land Rover look but since Ford owns teh company now I don?t think anyone will mind the synergy. The inside looks fully realized for the most part, with air vents everywhere and other little touches that make it seem farther along the line than the SYN-us.
