180Akerson looking for 20 percent more range from next-gen Chevy Volt [w/video]

The Chevrolet Volt's 38-mile electric range leaves something to be desired, despite being able to run nonstop for hundreds more miles when the range-extending gasoline generator kicks in. General Motors CEO Dan Akerson has recognized this and let slip that he wants to see the next-generation Volt get a significant electric-range increase, Bloomberg reports in a recorded interview with Akerson. The CEO says significant to him means 20 percent - "50 to 60 miles, or more," he adds - and remarks tha

63Bob Lutz says electric cars will improve, 'at that point, who needs a gasoline engine?'

Despite his long history with traditional internal combustion engines and climate change skepticism, Bob Lutz remains a strong voice for the plug-in future of the automobile. If anything, his recent statement are getting stronger. To wit, in an recent interview with CNBC, the Chevy Volt's grandpappy (and the former vice chairman of General Motors) said that not only will the future be electric – "the electric car future is definitely coming" (in five to 10 years) – but he also said p

15Chevy Volt ad 'Silent Anthem' brings back friendly deer, robot dogs

With a great soundtrack – Patty Griffin's Heavenly Day – Chevy is once again using robot dogs and real deer to tell us how eco-friendly the Volt is. The new Volt commercial, called "Silent Anthem," is basically an expanded version of the Volt's snippets from the Find New Roads commercial from February, but this time we see how wind power is the new gasoline (as you can see in the fictional "Instant History" iPad app used in the spot). Nice.

25Cadillac ELR meets snow and ice in northern Michigan winter testing

Right after being displayed and winning an award at the cozy confines of the Detroit Auto Show, the Cadillac ELR plug-in hybrid went into the snow for some real-world extreme driving conditions. Cadillac engineers recently completed chassis testing on pre-production ELR models, evaluating the car's handling in winter weather conditions.

82C7 Corvette makes inaugural ad appearance in Chevy's first spot with new slogan

Chevrolet's "Runs Deep" tagline has finally been run into the ground, replaced with the Bowtie brand's "Find New Roads" slogan that's part of parent General Motors' plan to unify its everyday brand's marketing efforts worldwide. The new Chevrolet campaign was ushered in on prime time last night during the Grammy Awards on CBS, and the first spot, a 90-second full-line ad, also marks the first appearance of the 2014 Corvette Stingray in a commercial.

AddTesla Model S vs Chevy Volt drag race ends exactly how you think it will

It may have a sliver of Chevrolet muscle car heritage, but the plug-in hybrid Volt didn't stand a chance of beating the Tesla Model S in a recent quarter-mile race.

18To sell more green cars, Chevy dealer makes building more energy efficient

LaFontaine Automotive Group, a dealership based in Dexter, MI, hired two firms to upgrade its facility for energy efficiency and cost savings – and as a method to market its environmentally responsible credentials. GridNavigator, a provider of an intelligent energy management system, and Bloom General Contracting, a construction management firm, have a partnership to promote green buildings to GM dealerships throughout the US. LaFontaine is their first joint customer.

18President Obama reveals secret Chevy Volt joyride to Jay Leno

President Barack Obama has been near a Chevrolet Volt before, but he's never had the chance to have a proper drive of one. That changed recently when a Volt-driving friend came to the White House for a visit and let Obama take it for a spin on the grounds.

24LG Chem confirms battery plant delay, says taxpayer money not wasted [w/video]

The reports were spot on. The LG Chem battery plant in Holland, MI – which was intended to make batteries for the Chevrolet Volt plug-in hybrid, but has not yet started production – is not only furloughing its 200 employees, those breaks are "extending and expanding," according to reports on local TV news station WZZM 13, citing statements from the company. The rolling furloughs started April 30.

40Chevy Volt battery workers at LG Chem idle since "there's nothing to do" *UPDATE

Despite rising Chevrolet Volt sales – September was the second record sales month in a row – not all is well in Volt productionville. According to local TV news reports, the Western Michigan LG Chem plant that makes the battery packs for GM's plug-in hybrid does not have enough work to keep all of its workers busy.

39New Chevy Volt ads again emphasize "Happiest Drivers on the planet"

Looks like the first two "happy Volt" owner commercials were a success. We assume this because General Motors has now released another half-dozen similar ads for the Chevrolet Volt. Every last one continues the pleasant, peppy vibe that once told us how the plug-in hybrid can save us "a crapload of money."

23This 13-year-old kid seriously loves the Chevy Volt

I believe that children are the future, teach them well and let them lead the way.

25Chevy Volt escapes the zombie horde

Did you know the Chevrolet Volt can outrun a gaggle of slow-rambling zombies? Did you know that even in an apocalyptic wasteland, beautiful women will drive freshly washed cars? These are two of the messages in a new ad (of sorts) for the plug-in hybrid that was created by Josh Soskin for the Mofilm Barcelona 2012 Video Contest.

31Chevy Volt takes a dip in the pool at Coachella. With bikinis.

The PR department for the GM Western Region swears there's Chevrolet Volt in the image above. We think we can spot it, but we're not sure. The still is taken from a promotional video for the Volt Recharge Lounge at the Coachella music festival in California recently.

61Bob Lutz wins push-up contest on The Colbert Report

Former General Motors Vice Chairman Bob Lutz went bicep-to-bicep with "America's ballsiest pundit," Stephen Colbert, last night – and came out ahead. Ostensibly, Lutz was on Colbert to talk about his new book, Car Guys Vs. Bean Counters, but as one might expect, the discussion veered into Mitt Romney vs. President Obama territory pretty quickly.
