Jury names finalists for World Car of the Year awards

Just last month we brought you the list of candidates for the World Car of the Year award and all its various categories. Now the international committee of judges has narrowed it down and announced the top three finalists from each category here at the Geneva Motor Show.

The shortlist for 2015 World Car of the Year has been whittled down to the Ford Mustang, Mercedes-Benz C-Class and Volkswagen Passat. That eliminates the BMW 2 Series Active Tourer, Citroën C4 Cactus, Hyundai Genesis, Jeep Renegade, Mazda2, Mini Hardtop 4-door and Nissan Qashqai from contention for the top award.

That of course isn't the only award which the jury hands out, though. In the Luxury category, the list has been narrowed down to the BMW i8, Mercedes S-Class Coupe and Range Rover Autobiography Black LWB. The finalists for Performance award are the BMW M3/M4, Jaguar F-Type R Coupe and Mercedes-AMG GT. Green contenders include the BMW i8 (once again), the Mercedes S500 PHEV and VW Golf GTE. And the nominees for the best car design are the Citroën C4 Cactus, Mercedes C-Class and Volvo XC90.

The winners in each category will be announced next month at the New York Auto Show, so watch this space to see which cars come away with the trophies.
