For motorists who go gaga for the Mini Cooper, there's good news: the next-generation of the car set to go on sale in 2013 will come in ten different iterations, according to Automobile.
With this kind of pint-sized variety, Mini will become the Ben & Jerry's of the automotive world.
This year, Mini rolled out the four-door Countryman. A new two-seater Mini Coupe comes out this October, and a Mini Roadster goes on sale in the first quarter of 2012.
Future products include a three-door Cooper hatchback, ethusiast magazine Automobile says. A new Clubman wagon and the Mini Traveler will follow. The Traveler will resemble a Mini wagon from the 1960s.
Mini spokeswoman Nathalie Bauters says the product plans Automobile laid out are too far in the future to discuss. Currently, Minis come in hardtop and convertible versions, a current Clubman style, a current coupe, a Mini John Cooper Works sporty version. The "Mini e" electric version is being tested with U.S. consumers through special leases.
The new Minis will be built on a BMW chassis called UKL1 and contain BMW three-cylinder engines. The platform will allow for all-wheel drive, electric and hybrid models, which might allow for some shared engineering a between Mini and the forthcoming BMW i EV, which the Munich-based automaker has billed as the ultimate urban mobile.
