Mini has just released the first official details on the company's upcoming Coupe. In Europe, the two-seater will be available with a range of diesel and gasoline engines, spanning from a 1.6-liter naturally-aspirated four-cylinder good for 122 horsepower to a turbocharged 1.6-liter four pot with 211 ponies. In between, a 2.0-liter turbodiesel four-pot with 143 horsepower and 225 pound-feet of torque is available, as is a more modestly turbocharged 1.6-liter four-cylinder good for 184 hp. As you might expect, our cousins across the pond will be able to choose between four trims, including Cooper Coupe, Cooper S Coupe, John Cooper Works Coupe and Cooper SD Coupe.

Mini says that its creation should serve as a kick in the pants for the compact sports car segment, but we're guessing that the company is also hoping the Coupe will do the same for the automaker's sales. So far, there's no word on pricing or availability, but with hard details now out on the table, odds are it won't be long before buyers will be able to get their hands on a set of keys. The MINI Coupé can be ordered with the most powerful petrol and diesel engines in the brand's arsenal. Outputs range from the 90 kW/122 hp of the MINI Cooper Coupé, to the MINI Cooper SD Coupé (105 kW/143 hp) and MINI Cooper S Coupé (135 kW/184 hp), all the way up to the MINI John Cooper Works Coupé, a thoroughbred athlete producing 155 kW/211 hp.

      Not meaning to be a rebel here......I personally think its not a bad design and the buyers in this market are looking for something to set themselves apart from other coupes. I would assume this is targeted toward 18 - 34 year olds, who are looking for something sporty in the $20K's. It should handle well and with the JCW package should be relatively quick. I look forward to seeing it on the road.

      Mini design language looks great on the hatch and convertible, all these other variations are much less successful attempts to stretch the brand as far as possible. At least this model is the right size, seen a couple of the crossovers and they look like a normal sized car wrapped in cute Mini skin.

      Pretty much nothing can make this car impressive to me except maybe a low price point but we all know that won't happen. A regular Cooper is much more practical.

      This or other Mini models with a diesel would be very interesting. Our monstrous debt almost surely dictates a weaker dollar which will facilitate higher oil prices and resulting higher fuel prices. Instead of hauling around 400 lbs. of batteries, plus, assumed extra weight of motors, etc., in a hybrid, I'd rather have a small high mileage diesel vehicle.

      i'm not loving these tail lights on a non-hatch, but more tossable coupes in the market are always a good thing. seeing this pitted against the new beetle turbo could make for a fun comparo.
