Last leg of the 2011 Targa Tasmania – Click above to watch video after the jump

The Targa Tasmania is a road-rally event that's been running since 1992, taking place, as you may have guessed, on the island of Tasmania. In 2011, this five-day race began in the coastal city of George Town and ended in the capital city of Hobart. The event features both classic and modern sports cars, changing weather conditions and some truly amazing driving talent.

Targa Tasmania has played host to some amazing drivers (such as Walter Röhrl) and equally amazing machines (such as Eric Bana's Beast). Porsche rather conveniently put together a video shot on the last leg of the 2011 Targa, and you can watch it by clicking past the jump. There you'll see Porsche driver extraordinaire Röhrl and others talk about their participation in the rally, and you'll also see plenty of footage of all the little Tasmanian Devils as they wind their way across the island before finally crossing the finish line. Enjoy!

Beast is cool, Röhrl is cooler. Seriously, posting fastest laps in that car? In the rain? Hitting 8,000 rpm in 5th IN THE RAIN?

Can't think of many drivers that have boss status like Walter.

Wow thank you for sharing this video! I remember watching race movies when I was younger - Cannonball Run, Sahara (not the recent one) and always thought it would be neat to race cross-country or participate in a multi-day race. Beautiful scenery, awesome cars!

Best thing about Targa Tasmania is that the location is almost as spectacular as the event. This race is first thing on my "when I win the lottery" list.

One of my favorite Porsche cars. Congrads on the win.

Yeah Targa Tasmania is a great race. I'd love to do it one day as well, entry is not so easy.
FWIW 2011 was 1st GTR, 2nd Sti, 3rd GTR, 4th STi, 5th GT2 RS (all with good drivers).

Cool rally. Music in the video was kind of random, with abrupt stops an transitions.

Anyone know where one might find more coverage of this and similar targa events? TV, internet, whatever?

'But it was not enough (rain). There should be more rain, then we'd have more fun.' - Walter Röhrl

      God I love that guy...
