AC Schnitzer has showed up at the Geneva Motor Show with not one, but two fresh-off-the-press upgrade packages for 2011.

Not wanting to look completely unfriendly to Mother Earth, AC Schnitzer has taken their expertise to the Z4 and BMW's EfficientDynamics system, working over a 320d mill to go under the Z4's hood. The 2011 AC Schnitzer 99d gets a 70-hp boost to 190, hits 60 in 6.9 seconds, releases a scant 99g of C02 per mile and returns a handsome 63 mpg in the European cycle. That, according to Schnitzer, is better than any BMW on the market. Unfortunately, the 99d is just a concept, and won't be available to the public any time soon.

For the family minded executives attending the show, AC Schnitzer started with the 2011 BMW 550i, bumping the car from 407 to 540 horsepower. According to Schnitzer, the result is a 4.5-second 0-60 sprint and a whopping 198 mph top end. The engine exhales through a new set of the tuner's own mufflers capped with chrome surrounds. The resulting executive express has been dubbed the ACS5 Sport S.

Hauling all that energy to a stop is a revised set of brakes sporting eight-piston calipers. Outside, Schnitzer went all-out to ensure that the car would be stable at its newfound velocity. The laundry list of exterior mods includes a front spoiler, carbon ducts for the brakes, new engine bay vents and, of course, your choice of 20 or 21-inch AC Schnitzer custom wheels.

Superb, powerful and individual: the AC Schnitzer ACS5 Sport S Saloon
reveals new and unusual aspects of driving pleasure

With the new BMW 5-series saloon and the new BMW 5-series Touring, in 2011 two new 5-series
models have been awarded the prestigious iF Award for outstanding product design. Equally
prizeworthy is the AC Schnitzer ACS5 Sport S Saloon based on the BMW 5-series saloon,
which celebrates its premiere at the Geneva Motor Show from 3rd to 13th March.

With this concept vehicle, the Aachen-based tuning specialist AC Schnitzer is demonstrating
new and unusual aspects of driving pleasure. With a performance upgrade from 407 to 540 HP,
the AC Schnitzer engineers are pushing the boundaries of the possible - for greater dynamics and
efficiency. The driving performance is at thoroughbred sportscar level: the sprint from 0 - 100 kph
takes just 4.5 seconds, and the top speed is around 320 kph. A glance under the bonnet with the
AC Schnitzer engine and engine bay styling shows just who is responsible for the revolutionary
refinement. The AC Schnitzer limited slip differential with up to 75% effect ensures that the
tremendous power reaches the point where it is needed. The AC Schnitzer twin sports rear
silencer with chromed "Sports Trim" tail pipe trims left and right combines exciting appearance
and sound.

What does the sophisticated driver expect from perfect brakes? Perfect braking of course! With
the AC Schnitzer high performance brake system with 8-piston fixed calipers left and right, and
an 8-piece kit of brake pads and caliper holders for the front axle, all expectations of optimum
deceleration and maximum stability are amply fulfilled. And the driving dynamics leave nothing to
be desired. The AC Schnitzer racing suspension guides the saloon perfectly through the corners.

The AC Schnitzer tuning specialists will be focussing on the reactions to the new aerodynamic
components for the body of the 5-series saloon. As well as the familiar AC Schnitzer front spoiler
and chromed front grille, a new carbon front spoiler centre part gives the ACS5 Sport S Saloon
an even more striking aspect. The carbon air ducts for the brakes left and right ensure adequate
ventilation for the high performance brake system, and the new AC Schnitzer carbon side skirts
clearly enhance the side view of the concept vehicle. The engine bay is ventilated by the bonnet
vents from the current AC Schnitzer range. Together with further accessories already available,
such as the AC Schnitzer rear roof spoiler, the rear spoiler and the rear skirt extension, new
elements such as the AC Schnitzer sports wings left and right with Chromline Set and the carbon
rear diffusor contribute to the great appearance. The AC Schnitzer loading sill protection film
and the BiColor film trim harmoniously complete the sporting elegance of the body conversion.
Possible and probable reactions to such a well-equipped vehicle are envious glances, which the
proud driver seated behind the AC Schnitzer sports airbag steering wheel with painted spokes
can enjoy in the new AC Schnitzer sports mirror.

The AC Schnitzer ACS5 Sport S saloon appears at the Geneva Motor Show with full leather trim
in BiColor, painted interior trim strips and racing bucket seats with AC Schnitzer logo, which
form part of the overall concept for the interior. The AC Schnitzer range already contains the
AC Schnitzer "Black Line" aluminium cover for the i-Drive system controller, the aluminium foot
rests and pedal set, velours boot mat and foot mats.

For the BMW 5-series saloon, AC Schnitzer also provides an unusual range of custom wheel/tyre
combinations in both 20 and 21 inch diameter. The largest variants are the racing forged rim in
BiColor and the new forged alloy wheel in BiColor in sizes 9Jx21" front and 10Jx21". Alternatives
are the AC Schnitzer Type IV BiColor wheel and Type V BiColor forged alloy rim.

The AC Schnitzer ACS5 Sport S Saloon - an extraordinary concept vehicle which embodies the
state of the art of technical achievement in more than just power. The AC Schnitzer definition
of "Performance" will certainly inspire BMW tuning fans throughout the world.

Endless driving pleasure with only 99 g CO2 emissions
The AC Schnitzer 99d is our definition of Efficient Performance

The AC Schnitzer 99d generates only 99g/km CO2 – that's less than any standard BMW vehicle
available at present.

And despite this, driving pleasure is guaranteed thanks to 190 HP / 140 kW. The 99d accelerates
from 0 - 100 in an electrifying 6.9 s and has a top speed of 235 km/h – a vehicle with all the
sporting genes, in fact a true AC Schnitzer. And with a fuel consumption of just 3.8 litres diesel
per 100 km.

So how does this Concept Car by AC Schnitzer manage to achieve such low figures?
AC Schnitzer calls the combination of features Efficient Performance.
"Pleasure is the driving force!" That applies not only to the BMW engineers but also - and in
particular - to the tuning specialists at AC Schnitzer.

Secret 1: Diesel engine and matching drive train
A diesel engine in a BMW Z4, and the most efficient currently available from BMW. It comes from
the 320d EfficientDynamics Edition. And of course now the power has been optimised by the
Aachen specialists to 190 HP and 420 Nm torque (standard 320d EfficientDynamics Edition: 163
HP).

Secret 2: 230 kg weight saving
The elegant lightweight coupé demonstrates what is technically possible today. The energy
source for example is a lightweight lithium ion battery instead of the usual lead accumulator. The
use of further lightweight materials such as carbon, magnesium and titanium has achieved further
substantial savings in the interior equipment. So it's lighter than any current standard BMW.

Secret 3: Weight reduction in unsprung mass
35 kg less weight in the parts directly connected to the wheels, such as wheels, tyres and brakes,
leads to a perceptible gain in agility and driving pleasure. The latest forging techniques using
materials from the aerospace industry guarantee strength and an unbeatable weight saving.
For example, the AC Schnitzer lightweight 4-pot high performance brake system with retraction
system for the front axle, and the lightweight brake discs on the front and rear axles, ensure the
shortest braking distances.
Or the Type VIII one-piece high-strength forged rims used on the AC Schnitzer 99d. These weigh
in at just 7.9 kg per wheel and are connected to the vehicle with titanium wheel bolts. Experts say
that measures to reduce the unsprung mass have a benefit of up to four times the weight saving.
This means that in terms of agility, the AC Schnitzer 99d feels like a vehicle which overall weighs
335 kg less.

Secret 4: Special Eco-tyres from Continental
The Continental BLUECO tyres size 225/35*19 were a special concept development in
conjunction with AC Schnitzer. These tyres help optimise the rolling resistance. The design is a
refinement of the Conti Sport Contact 5P, and allows sporting driving thanks to its high cornering
stability and ZR speed rating of over 240 km/h.

Secret 5: Adaptation of EfficientDynamics
Behind the BMW EfficientDynamics concept lies a technology package of intelligent measures
which significantly reduce fuel consumption and emissions. These technologies from the BMW
320d were integrated into the AC Schnitzer 99d: Automatic start-stop, brake energy recuperation,
gear shift display, low-friction lubricants and active aerodynamics.

Secret 6: Improved aerodynamics
The bodywork lowered by 30 mm, in conjunction with several AC Schnitzer carbon aerodynamic
components, reduces drag. The AC Schnitzer racing suspension with adjustable dampers
reduces the residual spring travel to a sporting but still comfortable level, especially when driving
at low speeds.

Secret 7: Reduced friction
Special ceramic wheel bearings achieve a decisive reduction in friction resistance. In addition,
optimised low-friction lubricants minimise friction. The high performance brake system is fitted
with a special PFC Retraction System which, after each brake process, retracts the brake pads by
0.1 mm from the brake discs. The wheels of the AC Schnitzer 99d then turn much more easily.

Secret 8: Driving pleasure
Individuality, exclusivity, ultramodern lightweight construction and over 20 years of experience in
refinement have led in the AC Schnitzer 99d to a vehicle which perfectly combines efficient fuel
consumption and driving pleasure: Efficient Performance by AC Schnitzer.
Naturally all safety elements are retained such as ABS, airbags and ESP. The multimedia world
too is not lacking thanks to the Apple iPhone4 integrated into the vehicle. This gives access to all
data from the on-board computer. So the actual fuel consumption, or for example the function of
the particle filter can be checked. Music, telephone, navigation, handsfree or internet complete the
overall experience in the AC Schnitzer 99d.
