Niche manufacturers rarely offer more than a single model line. In Wiesmann's case, that line consists of the GT, with its various BMW-sourced propulsion options, and its Roadster counterpart (pictured above). But like fellow German exoticar maker Gumpert, Wiesmann will roll into Geneva with a new model for our consideration: the Weismann Spyder.

Few details are available at this point, but the Wiesmann Spyder will be stripped down, lacking even doors or a windscreen. We assume it'll be based on the current Roadster, but Wiesmann stresses that it has not yet approved the Spyder model for production, and is bringing it to Geneva to gauge public opinion. We'll be watching, and you can follow the jump for the official statement.

Wiesmann at Geneva Motor Show 2011

From March 1st until 13th Wiesmann will be at Geneva Motor Show. The german sports car manufacturer presents its whole array of handcrafted sports cars at booth 1243. As a highlight the design study of Wiesmann Spyder will appear first in the automobiles world. The Spyder is an extremely downsized variation which has only one motivation: to provide a maximum of driving enjoyment.

Powerful, ultra-light and purist, the Wiesmann Spyder is the essence of Wiesmann's philosophy. The two seater is the most extreme Wiesmann ever built and introduces itself without doors or even a windscreen. In Geneve there will be a design study presented, which needs to undergo the judgement of the experts. General Manager of the manufactory Friedhelm Wiesmann says: "We want to test the marketability of such cars in Geneve", and he goes on: "The feedback of customers, partners and experts has high influence on the consideration of advancing the Spyder model." Wiesmann has not yet decided whether to put the Spyder into production. If it does go into production, this won't be before 2012.

The official revelation will be on March 1st 2011, 9.30 a.m. at Wiesmanns booth 1243.
