Lamborghini Estoque – Click above for high-res image gallery

Hold on to your lugnuts, kids, because here's a rumor that's so far out it practically qualifies as science fiction. Taken straight from Gasgoo.com, which has provided plenty of worthy news in the past, is this nugget: Lamborghini "will import its super luxury four-door sedan, Lamborghini Estoque to China for local production in 2012 with a price tag of around 4 million yuan ($589,000)."

To be fair, it appears as though Gasgoo is just reporting on what's being reported in other Chinese media. However, in case you haven't been keeping up with the Estoque's flirtations with production reality, first Lamborghini planned to make it after it was introduced two years ago, then the economic implosion supposedly killed it in early 2009, but Lamborghini quickly said that wasn't true, then this month company CEO Stephan Winkelmann hinted about how a third model would help the brand.

To us, none of that means the 2008 Paris Motor Show traffic-stopper is going to be built at all. Somehow, though, the Chinese media have heard that not only is it going to be built, but it will be built in China as soon as 2012. On top of that, even though it hasn't been developed, it's already been priced, and at that price you could buy almost three Aston Martin Rapide sedans. Or, more accurately, three Rapides and an infinite number of leprechauns, gorgons, drop bears and the latest creature of fable, a Chinese-built Estoque.

The car could be shipped to China as a "kit" and assembled there.
There are import tax advantages for doing that.

In China there is a huge divide between the rich and poor.
The Chinese rich have amazing amounts of disposable cash and they are very much into flaunting it. The perfect market to get this price point.

This car would fit the bill It would could also be marketed as "made in China" to that group.

Building a Lambo in China makes about as much sense as building Harley Davidsons in Mexico.
Or building them in France or Malaysia.

i don`t care where it is going to be built (SantÀgata is still my tip) as long as it is hitting the streets anytime soon. That car is freakin awesome!

... is me or does it look like a vampire with fangs and all. It looks ugly maybe I'll warm up to it but I doubt it. For 4 seaters they should somewhat tone down the radical design, it doesn't fit so well.

Is Aston Martin the only one that can do a 4 door supercar correctly? >_>

It says they will do that for local production, ie, they will build chinese lamborghinis for the chinese market. its not like VW and Audi dont already do it.

You're comparing their production of cheap economy cars with terrible build quality with a Lamborghini whose buyers expect the best? That's comparing apples and...broccoli

The Chinese media also says that the rest of the world doesn't exist, and they are most glorious nation.

this thing isn't ugly by any means, but i don't think the styling does anything special for lambo. granted this prototype is 2 years old, but if i were lambo, i'd wait for a captivating design to emerge before pulling the trigger. i expect greatness from the murcielago replacement, after being HUGELY disappointed with the styling of the gallardo.

This thing (whatever the hell it is) is gorgeous, I just wish Lambo would try something different with the nose.
