Mercedes C-Class Coupe prototype – Click above for high-res image gallery

Two months ago, Mercedes again said the C-Class Coupe would be coming, and for the first time, the greatly new-and-improved two-door has been caught outdoors. Since the existing E-Class Coupe already has the C-Class platform and roughly the same dimensions, we wondered how MB would put some daylight between it and the less expensive C-Coupe, and it looks as if Benz has addressed our questions.

It appears smaller and lacks the lower character line and haunches of the E-Coupe, as well as having a different tail treatment and much less aggressive front. Even so, we like. And if rumors prove true, we might like that cabriolet and AMG version even more, as well as being able to forget that the CLC ever existed. Have a look at the new hotness in the high-res gallery of photos below.

It will be interesting to see if MB tries to make this a true 3-Series Coupe competitor in terms of sportiness (chassis dynamics, sports suspension, maybe even a manual transmission) or if it will just be a 2 door version of the relatively unsporting C-Class sedan. Sadly, I'm guessing the latter given MB's current audience.

Having recently driven an Audi A5 before deciding on a 3 Series Coupe, it's clear Audi went the "luxury over sport" route and I'm guessing MB will do the same to appeal more to the brand-driven masses. Then again, MB could try to go after sports coupe enthusiasts if they execute this car well.

Until MB introduces an AMG coupe that offers a manual transmission and weighs less than 2 tons, I'm not holding my breath.

Considering Ferrari and the like have now moved away from building manual transmissions altogether, not holding your breath is an excellent idea.

However, the C-Class sedan is offered in base trim with a manual transmission, so I suspect this may also feature that at the very least.

I don't like it, looks toooo plain jane to me...I don't see how this will be a contender against a 3 Series/G37...

I wish Mercedes had devised a way to have a pillarless profile ( B Pillar). and keep costs and rigidity in check at the same time.

The pillarless profile, It just oozes sex (atleast in the bigger E coupe and the flagship coupe CL).

That being said. Its been a while and Mercedes should have done it abt 2 years ago. Never too late though.

        I don't think a C-class coupe makes any sense.

The E-class Coupe has the pillarless profile you want and its built on the C-class platform rather than the E-class platform. The E-coupe ends up being significantly tighter inside than the E-class. In fact, the CTS-Coupe has more driver space, while having slightly less backseat passenger space.

        I think a C-coupe is overkill.

Looks like a Kia Optima from 2001 with the body work covered.

I'm still on the fence on looks, so i'll have to see when they show it in full.

One thing I do know for sure is that the AMG version will undoubtedly be hot. I don't recall an AMG that hasn't been so far.

It looks like a Nissan Altima coupe from the profile. Are you SURE that it's a Benz?!
      Yes please.

C class coupe to run with the 3, E class coupe to run with the 6, and the S class coupe (or CL... stupid name) to run in it's own circle of awesomeness.

but yeah... Mercedes is making ALOT of models... if they could just axe the R, A, B, and maybe GLK (even though I kinda like it).

I actually saw a B-Class in Massachusetts (not to mention when I was in Europe) the other day and it looks quite nice in person, especially with AMG wheels on it.

The A and B Classes are both getting redesigns with the B-Class platform being used by AMG to make an AWD 4-door coupe, which sounds pretty exciting to me so i'm glad they're not axing it.

Looks like a cross between an A5 and a 3 series coupe
        • 4 Years Ago
If it had to be a cross between any two cars, those are definitely the right ones! : )

the "clc" or c230/c320 when it was sold here- had a super low price point compared to the other MBs...
i dont see them pricing this model as affordably.

I usually don't play this game, but wow, you're spot on. Try covering up the rest of the car with your hand (as long as no one is watching, that is).

Then compare it to this image:
