Sometimes we can't help but lament the relative lack of touring car racing in North America. Sure, there are a handful of series, but they don't enjoy nearly the popularity that they do overseas, including in England (BTCC), Europe (WTCC) and Australia (V8 Supercars). Even the Belgian Touring Car Series is looking increasingly appetizing with some of the latest entries to join the field.

Following the release of the recent release of the Volvo S60 touring car, we've just received word of a purpose-built tin-top Jaguar XF, also destined for the Belgian series. The XF Silhouette racer is based on the same frame that underpinned the previous X-Type touring car, but reportedly benefits from some major upgrades, including (obviously) updated bodywork and a new 3.5-liter V6 engine. Driving duties will reportedly be undertaken by Albert Thirty, who debuted in the series earlier this year behind the wheel of the Kia Pro_Cee'd Silhouette racer. Thanks for tip, Bastien!

I wouldn't mind taking that for a few laps around Spa.

I just hope it does better than Jaguar's ALMS effort so far...

My first thought upon looking at these photos is that a two-door XF coupe about the size of the Vantage could be a beautiful thing.

"Even the Belgian Touring Car Series is looking increasingly appetizing"

umm, I think any form of auto racing other than NASCAR (Non-Athletic Sport Circling Around Rednecks) is appetizing.

Why can't touring cars and other road racing series go mainstream? Because Nascar sucks up all the publicity and ad dollars. Hell, you hardly ever hear about Indy or drag racing anymore either.

There's always some idiot that will bash NASCAR even though the article has nothing to do with it. Check the article about the rendered Durango/Magnum.

By the way, Coco, you might want to stop using that acronym.

        1. It's old and overplayed.
        2. It doesn't even make sense. Explain to me how it's non-athletic.

This story has absolutely nothing to do with NASCAR. FAIL.
