BMW Vision Efficient Dynamics Concept - Click above for high-res image gallery

We were all wondering how BMW was going to manage to bring its Vision Efficient Dynamics Concept to the road, and now it looks like we may have our answer. According to Autocar, elements of the wild diesel-electric sports car will crop up in the next-generation M6. The report claims that the company will send the efficient drivetrain packing in favor of a more robust twin-turbo V8 powerplant sourced from the current M3.

Why would BMW be interested in crafting the M6 into a mid-engine, V8 terror? It might just have something to do with the rabid success of the Audi R8, but Autocar thinks a similar model would allow BMW to do battle with Porsche 911 and the oft-rumored baby Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG. It all sounds good floating around the interweb, but color us skeptical.

Yes BMW! This is what you should be doing!

R8 > anything BMW makes. In my opinion.

This is the first BMW that I look forward to seeing it its final form in a looong time. Very nice proportions, really modern and finally no Bangle-butt or "flame surfacing" bullcrap.
Now, benchmark McLaren's MP4/12 and not the R8 or SLS or you'll be left for dead from the start.

I can see BMW doing something to compete with the Audi R8 but to completely redo the M6 seems to be an odd way to accomplish it. Why not bring back the M1 as rumored?

not with this thingie...come on BMW....

Awhile ago, BMW was stating that it wouldn't be making a mid-engine car, and marginalized Audi's creation. Now, I guess they want back in. Man, upper management are liars, or fickle or both.

If they DO do it, it won't be called an M6, because the next gen 6 is still front engined.

They should call it an M8...or M9.

Even on a BMW supercar concept neons look tacky as hell.

      nice car

Why don't they just produce that new M-1 concept they had a few years back. I'd much rather see that than some smooth futuristic thing trying to compete with the R8.

I have to agree with you here, that was a much better looking machine, and if you look at the details especially around the rear seems to be the same rolling stock.

why f*in "taking cues", just 'clone' it ffs
it is gorgeous, has strong "personality" and actually looks like BMW

Good luck BMW, you'll need it, though it'll be nice to have a real R8 competitor coming out of Munich.

This concept looks about 6 years old. Toyota, Mazda, Mercedes, Ferrari are doing it right, on the other hand.
