Chevrolet e-Spark – Click above for high-res image gallery

The Reva NXG concept car looks aggressive, like it wants to hunt down anyone who says that all electric cars needs to look silly. The Chevrolet Spark concept, too, looks pretty darn good for a little car. The two companies are working together on an all-electric car for the Indian market and it was revealed at the New Delhi Auto Show this week. Sadly, the look of the car is a big bag of yawn.

The car in question is the Chevrolet e-Spark, and it would be India's first four-door electric vehicle. The outside is simply the standard Indian-spec Spark, but Reva's EV powertrain sits underhood. Detailed information on this car is scarce, but we hear it will have both regular drive and boost modes as well as regenerative brakes. There might also be an option to get the car with either lead acid or lithium-ion batteries. Production should start sometime this year.

I've said it once and I'll say it again... please keep the photographs in FOCUS. Some of these photographs are amateur, especially this one:

I would have not kept it in the gallery set and deleted it after taking the picture.

All this new technology, would a family who probably lives in a shack be able to fix this or get it fixed if it brakes down. And how would they re-charge it.I think if car manufactures want to make a great car for the average people, they should have it powered by something simple that the public knows about, like a motocycle engine,or something.

      The Volt of India?
not exactly.. since the volt was a result of strong govt backing and still the output was not for the average US car buyer($35k+)
This has got the power terrain from Reva which is homegrown ingenious technology without any govt backing or even tax incentives and is speculated to cost just 1 lakh($2000) more than the normal chevy spark.

      Please don't bring it here.

      Oh, look.

Someone took a Honda 600, rounded off the corners, and stuck two more doors and an electric motor in it.

What, you say? General Motors did this?

      :coughchokegagcough:

      I see.
more like someone took a chevy spark and dropped an electric motor in it.

what you say general motors did this? what do they own chevy or something?
Bottom line, An average family in India has choices in buying an electric car with two door, four door, low speed high speed and all that jazz for a decent price. It may not have all the features we are used to but they still have choices for normal transportation.
Here in Stateside we keep blaming safety, highway speeds, acceleration, size, styling, profitability, anxiety or one or the other and not let a single electric car make it to the market. By the time a car satisfies an American's needs, it's price is in the 40k region, which makes it totally out of the price range. Its just frustrating to see that not one electric car is available for less than 20k, 100 mile range and 60mph speed.

this car looks like an 03 civic hatchback, with odd front headlights.
      imho not an attractive car..

Huge chunks of India have problems even getting electricity. Before taxing the existing grid further they might want to focus on expansion.
