Gran Turismo 5 screen shots – Click above for high-resolution image gallery

Psst...PlayStation fans: Bet you've been getting a little irked about all these screen shots and details about Forza 3 for the xBox 360, haven't you? Well we've got something for you: the first batch of screen shots of the new Gran Turismo 5 for PS3. So far, it's just five shots of the Japanese Super GT-spec Nismo GT-R, but it looks good.

The long awaited and highly anticipated fifth installment from the iconic racing simulator franchise packs some 1000 different vehicles to choose from – according to Sony, more than twice as many as its "closest racing competitor" (wonder who they're talking about) – brought to life in unprecedented quality with state-of-the-art damage rendering, rollover crashes and the whole nine yards. There's even a sweet little feature worked in to allow gamers to export their favorite replay footage straight to YouTube. Alright, enough hype. Check out the screen shots in the high-resolution image gallery below.

Thats it?! It looks like crap. That looks like competition to Forza 2.

Forza 3 definitely still has this one in the bag.
You're absolutely right, Forza 2 already had it in the bag when it came out. Gran Turismo is no longer the standard. It's reign ended on Gran Turismo 4, now it's just a thing of the past. Forza is the present and the future. So long Sony, it was a good run and you deserve a pat on the back but now its time to pack up and head home for good. Forza wears the crown now, bow down to your master.

Am I the only one noticing that the people in the backgrounds look terrible? Looks like characters from the Sims or something.

I know the game is about the cars and the driving, but if you're going to take this long, when you put content in the game, it should look better than that.

Wow... this game quickly brought up a huge debate. I can not wait to get this, and I'll probably buy a Logitech wheel when I get the game. It's as real as a racing game gets, and I love it.

Hey man...when you're finished setting your next record and giving valuable instruction, please let me know what track this is so that I can race two full days for $400....I'll be there.

I'm sure you'll be providing the car right?? Or is the price of racing at that track so low that I can afford to put new brakes and tires on my own car when I'm done.

      Sign me up bro!
NASA or BMWCCA can teach you to drive. Entry fees range from ~$300 to $450 for the big time tracks. Of course you provide your own car and consumables. But for D-class students starting out, you won't use much brakes or tires.

Yeah it's not cheap but it's not prohibitively expensive. Set your budget at the beginning of the year and don't buy a few PS3 games and go to the track once instead.

The cool thing is going back and racing the same track in the game afterwards.

It looks good, but the lack of AA is really disturbing. Hopefully it's not very noticeable in game or they implement it.

It's so beautiful. It will be stunning rendered in full 1080p. I'm weeping with joy right now.
wow i cant wait for this game one of the reasons i bought PS3,ive played all the driving games none of them will even come close to this one.
I hope that for some odd reason these fave anti-aliasing turned off. For not being screenies from while driving a track, I'd expect no jaggies. Frankly, those shots are nothing but disappointing. However, if gameplay footage is nearly as good, I'll be happy, as long as I enjoy the feel, and it supports a clutch.

There is one major difference between GT and Forza; delivery. Duke Nukem anyone?

No matter how good GT5 may be, Forza will be better for the simple reason that you can play in a month when it's released while you have to wait another decade for GT5.

With that said, I'm looking forward to both games.

(yes I have held three different amatuer competition licenses and instruct with some clubs, yes I have won actual real races and set actual real lap records). Reading the replies to this post pisses me off because it makes me realize that while I think Forza is better than GT, you guys who take this crap so seriously are nothing but big losers. I'm talking to you guys that write the super long posts that dog the competing software point by point. Get out of the basement man, and go drive for real. For about the price of the PS3 and the game you can go drive for two days at a REAL track. Then come back and talk about how good the game is.

By the way Forza 3 is going to be better.

Hey Jeff...it is funny that you just happened to pop in from your busy day and take notice of the 5 page posts in here. Glad you can chime in. Congrats on your ability to drive a real car, too!

I gotta run Jeff. You have become my role model. Therefore, I'm going to find a blog about nuclear physics and go post some stuff in there and act like I know what I'm talking about.

I'll check back later though when I come up from the basement! LOL

Glad you liked the post...I knew it would ruffle a few feathers and get a few fanbois in an uproar. But honestly, I never expected two accomplished macho men like you and donut boy to come to the rescue.

I can go make a few posts in the Men's Health blog if you want....perhaps I can set the stage for you two to state more inpressive facts about yourselves.

No your low 1:57.7 is no longer a record at TWS.

I can already tell you my friend John has ran a 1:56.6 in his GT-R this year.

I mean no disrespect but this is a post about video games, so why can they not debate over which one will be better? This isn't a post about actual racing, which you seem to be pretty good at. Then you contradicted youreself with the "by the way Forza 3 will be better".
I can answer any questions you may have about nuclear physics so you don't have to pretend. Or rocket science too if you like.

By the way there aren't many blogs about nuclear physics.

      jaggies galore! forza 3 ftw!!!
Wow, buy a PS3 and play whenever, wherever, or buy a track day pass for one or two days at a local track in a real car (yours) that you might crash or break.

Makes sense I suppose, to those with a ton of disposable income.

I'll stick to games to realize my racing fantasies, along with the occasional autocross/RPDE (I got to drive a stock car at Chicagoland, whee!)/empty parking lot or dirt field (eh, I have a Subaru) for a thrill.
