Psst...PlayStation fans: Bet you've been getting a little irked about all these screen shots and details about Forza 3 for the xBox 360, haven't you? Well we've got something for you: the first batch of screen shots of the new Gran Turismo 5 for PS3. So far, it's just five shots of the Japanese Super GT-spec Nismo GT-R, but it looks good. The long awaited and highly anticipated fifth installment from the iconic racing simulator franchise packs some 1000 different vehicles to choose from – according to Sony, more than twice as many as its "closest racing competitor" (wonder who they're talking about) – brought to life in unprecedented quality with state-of-the-art damage rendering, rollover crashes and the whole nine yards. There's even a sweet little feature worked in to allow gamers to export their favorite replay footage straight to YouTube. Alright, enough hype. This game never fails to deliver the eye candy.

but it fails to deliver in all other aspects. GTR2 ftw !

***********FOR THE RECORD - PLEASE READ**************
First off......there is no doubt that the amount of time it has taken for the full version of GT5 to be released in disappointing. I am outright pi$$ed, myself.
However....the comments on this board have proven to be the perfect litmus test which shows who the fanboys of non-GT5 games are.
Some facts:
***GT5 is a no-excuses racing simulator.....all others are arcade games.
***Those who say GT5 is boring can't pass the licensing tests to even get into the game!
***The best Forza or GTR racer is barely a novice in GT5.
***Anyone who says Forza can stand up to GT5 sounds like the guy who says his Civic is faster than a Veyron.
***Those who are saying that the graphics on GT5 are lacking are blatantly "missing the point" and are not qualified to critique the game.
***Those who say GT5 lacks in the "gameplay" just stuck their foot in their mouth....think about it.
For those of you who are considering which game to buy...consider this. The cars in Forza are usually highly detailed and even sound close to being real.....BUT....all the cars feel the same. In GT5, the cars have all of the characteristics that they should have whether they are AWD, FWD, RWD, heavy or light. If you are a Mustang GT owner and think you're going to jump in one and dominate the competition....don't buy GT5!!! Go buy Forza and you might be able to beat a Lotus Elise.....that won't happen in GT5.... nor would have ever happened in any version of GT.
I race GT5P almost every night. I've invested in a PS3, a 60inch HDTV, and a complete driving rig. I love to race. I've been waiting for several years for a legit racing game. I have tried the Forzas, the GTR's, the N4Speeds and all the others trying to find something to play. If you've been driving the GT series, you haven't been able to find anything close....ever. If you say you have....then you never had GT5 or you sucked at it so bad you had to put it down.
THIS DEBATE IS OVER.

Chris.... this is Chris. Calm down.
"GT5 is a no-excuses racing simulator.....all others are arcade games."
Okay, sure. The physics are nice in GT games, but in the end they are all just that. SIMULATORS.
"Those who say GT5 is boring can't pass the licensing tests to even get into the game!"
No one has PLAYED GT5, ACTUAL GT5. SO no one is saying it is boring. Prologue maybe, because they've done all they can with its limited cars and tracks.
"The best Forza or GTR racer is barely a novice in GT5"
Again, no one has played GT5. It's not out yet. And I have mastered both GT4 and FM2.
"Anyone who says Forza can stand up to GT5 sounds like the guy who says his Civic is faster than a Veyron."
We will find out I guess, but the Civic crowd really is more of a NFS vs GT5/FM3 crowd....
"Those who are saying that the graphics on GT5 are lacking are blatantly "missing the point" and are not qualified to critique the game."
We haven't seen the final product.
"Those who say GT5 lacks in the "gameplay" just stuck their foot in their mouth....think about it."
Again, again, again, not out yet.
"For those of you who are considering which game to buy...consider this. The cars in Forza are usually highly detailed and even sound close to being real.....BUT....all the cars feel the same. Still. Neither game is out yet. If you are comparing GT4 to FM2, then fine. But WHOOOLE different game because the PS2 was well behind the 360 in terms of abilities.
You sound dejected, like you pissed away all this money for a slower, crappier, less liked game.
Stop crying.
sparrk 2:08PM (9/03/2009)
at anyone calling GT a simulator , get a car first.

You should really read this, there are a lot of neat things in there.

What sparrk said. I do drift days with my RX-7 pretty often and in no way does the physics in GT4 reflect the characteristics of a car that has lost traction. Forza on the other hand does a better job of it, though I find having to use a wheel with 270 degrees of lock a bit of a pain. Some may say "Drifting isn't the same as racing" but if you ever brake a little too heavily, push the throttle a little to far and trying to keep the momentum of you car going, it is. That said, we all know Forza is not the be-all, end-all simulator because with almost any tuning setup, your car will work pretty decently. Maybe Forza 3 will fix that but given that it needs to be accessible rather than painfully frustrating, I wouldn't expect it to be something that's resolved altogether.
Also, more relevantly, GT5 does look gorgeous. It clearly renders glass, clearcoat and other reflective surfaces far better to give more depth. Forza looks flat by comparison.
Chris 2:57PM (9/03/2009)
Benfolio.....you really missed the point entirely and that's not suprising since you think they are all simulators, but that's your problem. I doubt you mastered anything.....but if you care to test your skills online.....I'm up for a few laps on Prologue. Lemme guess....you didn't buy Prologue???
No crying here.....Prologue is bridging the gap just fine.
Benfolio 3:56PM (9/03/2009)
I don't own a PS3. Never bothered to get one for Prologue, the only game I would own a PS3 for.
But I DID own every other GT title for my PS1 and 2. And when GT5 comes out, I probably WILL get a PS3.
But I will admit, I did not master EVERYTHING in GT4 before I got rid of it.
I never did pass that SLR test on the 'Ring..... just everything else.
esteva03 5:47PM (9/03/2009)
i might sin of being too simple minded, but i might have the answer to this FM vs GT dilema. GT is better than FM in graphics, and that is all that can be compared. Gameplay, length, playability, physics, online gaming, etc. all depend on subjective perception. So leaving that aside, saying that GT is better than FM, in a world were there are games that are 9 out of 10, or 4 out of 5 stars, is saying GT has 15 in a 10 point scale, and FM has 14. Both are amazing games that go beyond an idea and its execution. The only other problem this games have are fanboys who wont just enjoy the reality of both games, and try to make their choice the standar other games should be measured by.
Can't we all just get along? no, really!
jcar302 6:17PM (9/03/2009)
Chris, you have the nerve to call other people "fanboys"?
What exactly would you call yourself?
I have no doubt GT5 will be a great game. But i think sony is going to lose a fair amount of sales to forza based on availability. Not everyone wants two racing games.
It's like first person shooters, most people pick one and stick to it.
People that own multiple systems may not be up to buying another racer by the time GT5 is on the shelf.

Eye candy + Top Gear test track = Doc forks over the dough
vespid82 11:26AM (9/03/2009)
Absolutely gorgeous as expected! Now where are the XBox 360 / Forza 3 fanboys to come in here and stink up the place?

lothar 11:30AM (9/03/2009)
Why is that because any Forza post is filled with Sony trolls?
The game looks nice just like Forza, the is a car blog so I'll keep it to being on topic. Owners of either console have a great racer, some have more cars some have more online features, it all comes down to racing and having fun.
Jeff Johnson 11:42AM (9/03/2009)
Well -- I was going to say something nice about it, even though I dont have a PS3 or plan to buy one, instead I will comment on the fact that your attitude is biased and incites hateful comments towards you due to you "starting it".
If I understand your comment correctly, just because I have a preference for a different system and different game I will "stink" the place up? I can't wait for Forza 3, however in the past few days I happily ignored all the haters in those news posts comment sections. I would suggest you do the same.
Seems to me if you wanted to keep the comments on topic you would not come out and suggest that people who talk abour Forza 3 will "stink up" your posting. GT5 looks to be a good racing game, and I won't berate it or you by calling you a fanboi (such a retarded word anyway)
I will suggest however that you grow up a little bit and stop trying to incite pointless arguments.
IRONFIST 11:51AM (9/03/2009)
Absolutely gorgeous? You're either blind or you forgot to put your contacts in this morning.
cFoo 12:06PM (9/03/2009)
I'm a fan of both games. However, Gran Turismo 5 is an EPIC FAIL when you think about the release date. They have been taunting us with this game for YEARS. Forza 2 came out, they give us a demo/prologue many moon later. Just when Forza 3 is about to come out they give us fancy screenshots and more promises. I will believe it when I see it.
PCIV 12:25PM (9/03/2009)
At least your best racer isn't Mario Kart Wii...
jav 12:54PM (9/03/2009)
well i have both the PS3 and XBox 360 and i have to say that im not that big of a fan of GT. from a graphics perspective it feels a little PC. i know they tried to make it a little less cold and simulator like by putting people on the background walking around and stuff. but it doesnt feel right. On the other hand, im sure both titles will still be great games to play.
