VIDEO: Walter Röhrl wrings out the 2010 Porsche GT3

Walter Röhrl drives better than you can. In fact, he drives better than most people presently walking this Earth. The rally legend and Porsche test driver recently took the 435 hp Porsche GT3 and lapped the 'Ring in a blistering 7:40. Now he's tossing the track-ready 911 variant on video for all to see. Hit the jump to watch Mr. Röhrl show the 2010 911 GT3 who's boss. It's too bad we can't switch off the underwhelming promo music so we can focus in on the beautiful noises emanating from the GT3's tailpipe, but Röhrl's handiwork more than makes up for it.

I don't get the gt3 in recent years. Beautiful. But not nearly as comfortable or fast as the zr1 or gt-r. You'd think that a track-ready car all lightened up and stuff would blister like the viper acr or something. But 14 seconds behind cars that are half the price? I love 911s, but I just don't get this one. Would someone explain to me why this car is compelling besides its looks (which themselves will be trumped by the gt2)?

Well, the ZR-1 does have 638hp, vs. 435. I imagine the difference is the feel of the drive, gives you different emotions. At least, that what Porsche says, and a lot of their customers.

The GT3 is a street legal homologation version of a race car, it respects the technical specs of it's class , specs that among others limit the engine displacement to 3.8l. because of this it is easy and relatively cheap to convert your GT3 and compete in a lot of FIA competitions around the world.that explains the cost of the car and the fact that they are using the most out of an N/A small displacement engine.
if you want a version that is closer to the race version then the GT3 RS is the car for you.
the Viper ACR and the ZR1 don't fit in any official racing category so they do not have to worry about using superchargers and/or huge engines, making the cars cheaper.

Thanks sparrk ... Totally makes sense as a homologation... Guess I shoulda figured that one out...

The competitors are really closing the gap and cars like the GT3 are starting to seem dated? I love Porsche but they need to step it up.

Now that is one good looking ride. I'll have the RS variant though, in nordic gold metallic.
