Click above for more live shots of the Fiat 500 DIESEL

Perhaps it isn't the most interesting live reveal that took place in Paris, but we managed to get a few shots of the new Fiat 500 by DIESEL anyway. Yes, there is an optional 75-horsepower 1.3 Multijet diesel engine, complete with a particulate filter to keep things squeaky clean, but that's not why it's called the DIESEL edition. That moniker comes from the Italian clothing company, which lends its name and the styling talents of DIESEL head designer with a head Lars Schwartz. Outside, the 500 is painted in your choice of Green DIESEL, Brown DIESEL or Black DIESEL. Name recognition much? Surely the most striking bit of kit is inside, where the seats are upholstered in denim with contrasting stitching. Fortunately, the look is much more upscale than that of the Levi's Gremlins and Jeans Beetles of the '70s. Proof is in our complete gallery below.

So, it is called a Diesel edition, but it doesn't necessarily have a diesel engine in it? Who was the marketing moron who came up with that. I wonder how many idiots are going to accidently pump diesel into their gasoline tanks.

This reminds me of when turbo-prop airplains came out and so there was confusion as to whether the plain had a turbine engine or a turbo-charges reciprocating engine and plains crashed because the wrong fuel was pumped in.

Anyway, I don't see what is so pleasing to the eye about this little car anyhow. It looks like a vacuum cleaner sans the handle.

Jake: sounds like you didn't read the article.

Flea: true, but it still miraculously happens sometimes.

uh, you know diesel filler guns won't fit in gasoline filler caps, right? The nozzle is bigger, see..

        Fiat is an Italian autogroup.

Diesel, S.P.A. is a well-known Italian clothing company.

Diesel engines seem to be the preferred engine choice throughout Europe.

Since Fiat and Diesel are both sold in Europe and the Fiat 500 Diesel Edition is available with the preferable diesel engine, it is likely that those interested in the Diesel Edition Fiat 500 are completely aware which fuel to put into their tanks.

With all due respect, I'm sure European 500 owners would think you are the likely idiot here for thinking they're that stupid...

Theo...seriously...insulting America and then acting like you didn't apply it to everyone really doesn't work.

Just call the commenter a moron and leave my country out of it. Thanks.

At first I wasn't sure that I would like it, but the interior works for this particular car. This would also work well in the Ka (obviously, built on the 500s platform, but still).

If that car is brought over here I predict it will be a sensation like the Mini Cooper.
Be kinda cool to see a dealership that sells Minis,Fiat 500's and Smarts.Betcha they'd do well.

If the 500 has squirrels under the hood and a tinfoil interior, I'll take it!

I like the color and those wheels.

By placing the Diesel (clothing) name on it they can now double the price for no meaningful differences.

No matter how you dress the Fiat 500 up, those front headlights make the car look goofy, nerdy, or effeminate -- take your pick. It's a girly car.

I so want a Fiat 500 here in the states. I spent some time in one in England and just thought it was great. In person it has great proportions and terrific little touches in the interior. I just can't see it happening any time soon, though, with no Fiat dealer network, a worthless dollar, and a general reputation here for crap quality that will take a long time to overcome.

By the way, that auto show display with the huge 500 is pretty cool. Their choice in spokespersons ain't bad either. Fiat has a way of doing some interesting things at car shows. A few years back they had models in low-cut red dresses with the neckline shaped like the grille on the 147. Awesome attention to detail.
