Chevy Camaro SS photos emerge en masse

We've had fun looking at the new Camaro in LS and LT trim, and even the RS appearance package livens things up a bit, but if we're to be honest, we really only care about the SS model. Fortunately for us, new photos of the Camaro Super Sport have found their way online thanks to Kevin Kolvenbach who goes by the handle of RagSS on the forums. It's claimed that RagSS took these pics, which we find suspect considering their high quality. Well, maybe he took this one. Regardless, they were taken and we're told show the Camaro SS basking in the sun around Hudson Valley, New York, another claim we doubt considering the type of vegetation and, oh, we don't know, large mountains in the background. Go west, young man.
With a 6.2L LS3 V8 producing 422 hp and 408 lb-ft of torque, the SS will be the cream of the Camaro crop for now and probably some time to come, as its power level puts the SS nearly on par with the base Corvette. While the Camaro SS may lack many of the Corvette's other attributes, we're fairly certain Chevy doesn't want to start cannibalizing Vette sales.

GM wtf!!! Why is the bowtie in the grille not replaced with the SS badge?

Agreed, though I say start removing that giant gold bowtie from all your products, GM.
How about smaller and silver?
Gold trim = the implication of cheap and tacky.
Menice 11:39AM (8/25/2008)
that will never go away... you should know by now a lot of marketing revenue comes from keeping the now even larger bow tie there..(sarcsm).... along with the dumb ass "GM square" on the side doors.
not loving the itty bitty scoop hole.. but i do love the looks
of the new camaro... too bad chevy's gonna ruin it more with each new news/edition release.

I really don't like the look of that car... i think the flared quarter panels/ grill looks like crap... not to mention that tiny hood scoop... but to each their own i guess

Sounds like you wont bee seeing much of the grille or the hood scoop... so don't sweat it bud!
I would suggest getting used to the rear end, so you won't be too smitten by it whenever you'll end up looking at one... and it will happen, don't doubt it.

Ahahahaha.
Serge, don't be so sure. With the Mustang getting the Ecoboost six cylinder and 5.0 V8 for 2010, by the time this car comes out, it'll be in even competition with the Ford.
Serge 11:26AM (8/25/2008)
I don't think the guy drives a Mustang... even the most hardcore Mustang guy can appreciate a great muscle car. I think he's more of a G37S or even worse a TL-S type of guy (the S really matters, gives you sooooo much more HP).
But I'm just trying to make an online joke... slow monday :)
call me crazy 11:45AM (8/25/2008)
ur right i do drive a mustang but unless it will pull a 1/4 mile in less than 11.9 i will not be seing the rear of that

So if one 'S' is useless, what's the point to an 'SS'?
Just kidding.
Serge 2:29PM (8/25/2008)
S = 300hp and 1.97 lb ft. torque....... LOL
SS = 422hp and 408 lb ft. torque :)
S = :(
SS = :)
John R 11:10AM (8/25/2008)
I think I heard this on Garage 419, but I think its valid regardless. GM needs to put a Z28 variant with all the SS's handling goodies but with the 300hp V6 engine.
They'll sell a lot more of those than SSs.

The rear of the car looks very wimpy compared to the front.

I think the LT RS is pretty much what you want!

@John R
Stupid reply system... is it really that hard to make a reply button work?
Emmo213 11:17AM (8/25/2008)
I'm really looking forward to when this car is available. Maybe then there won't be so many posts about it.

Driving back from DIA yesterday I saw a fully undisguised white CTS Coupe (one 3 inch checkerboard stripe across the back, that's it) on the back of a car trailer coming from the airport.
Un. Fricken. Believable.
Assuming this will come close to the same price, I would take that CTS any day of the week.
Any spy photogs in Colorado, be on the lookout. It is here, and is completely without camo. I didn't have a camera on me or I would have gotten pics.

While I would kill people to buy a CTC-V :)... this car is considerably faster than a regular CTS. I think they're for a completely different market... the CTC is an ultra luxury coupe with all leather interior and smooth everything, while the Camaro is a ball bustin muscle muchine with handling :). Both are good at what they are IMHO.
TJ 11:29AM (8/25/2008)
Oh, I understand the performance difference...
The CTS Coupe is one of the most stunning vehicles I have seen in, well, one HECK of a long time. Absolutely stunning in person.
I would take the performance hit for it, gladly.
That, and I am pissed I didn't get shots of it to share, so:
Maroon Semi, last seen at ~6:30 heading away from DIA on Pena Blvd exiting at 56th near the hotels. Car trailer full of vehicles including many CTS sedans, single white undisguised CTS coupe on the back/bottom of the transport with a single 3 inch checkerboard stripe going from the back of the rear wheel-well around the trunk to the other rear wheel well. PLEASE someone get some shot of this thing!

according to camaro5.com the ss is supposed to be less that $30,000 and is supposed to have a 400hp 6.2L or an optional 422hp 6.2L.
elprogramer 1:52PM (8/25/2008)
CTC! Catera Touring Sedan Coupe is retarded, and no, I don't care if Detroit says otherwise!
