VIDEO: Audi's "The Art of Performance"

Click above for a high-res gallery of the 2008 Audi R8.
A few of the Autoblog crew are former (or current) musicians that have tempered our insatiable lust for all-things-automotive with a healthy appreciation of the aural arts. So whenever an automaker attempts to combine the two, we're keenly interested in the outcome.
Audi teamed up with the German group Bullet and the graphics and video crew at Campana to create an orchestral masterpiece to launch the R8 in Brazil. With 41 musicians, three DJs and one conductor providing the soundtrack, the video clips integrate with the score and sound effects to create an impressive experience. Our only gripe is that the first two videos aren't nearly long enough, but they're worth checking out after the jump.

Yeah, but top gear did it better.

This was cool, but I was hoping for more engine and car noises. Less machinery and thinks like windows, doors, and windshield wipers... it seemed a little campy.

Funny that in 4 videos about a performance car set to music, there is absolutely no driving. I was hoping for some nice dynamic maneuvers synced up to great driving music. The orchestra is great, the technology is interesting, but put them together, and you just have a bunch of repeating gizmo noises over orchestral music. Not exciting.

what a waste of time and effort. nothing exciting here

you guys have no creativity! The fact that it ISN"T engine sounds is what makes it great....it goes beyond the expected and uses many more creative combinations of sounds and visuals. Keep in mind also, that a typical Audi owner is more sophisticated in their likes...not to say they are superior, but they do exhibit a flair and appreciation more associated with high art, fashion, etc. A few engine sounds may have been nice, but this is still very provocative...

Agreed, that is a very alluring symphony and a great blend of music and technology.

The VW Group had ads like this years ago with this famous commercial. Still one of my favorites: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NwVtkuQacp8

I was very impressed with that. I'd love to have seen the whole thing. Audi's marketing (tv ads, this, etc) is much more impressive than what most car companies are dishing out at the minute.
