Here's another one that we're very curious to read more about when Mazda gets around to issuing its sweeping Tokyo Auto Salon release. The car shown, of course, is the Demio, a.k.a. Mazda2, a.k.a one of the cool non-US market cars we'd love to see in our local showrooms. In this case, it's a fully-dressed Mazdaspeed Demio concept. In addition to the full aero package (new bumpers, spoilers, skirts, inserts, etc.), it boasts Mazdaspeed wheels, brakes, and likely some suspension upgrades. Whether there are any changes under the hood is not currently known, but it'd be a shame to look that fast with no guts to back it up. Inside, two-tone racing seats and various dress-up bits bring the Demio's cabin upmarket. We'd rather see a manual transmission instead of the show car's automatic, but if Mazda does decide to go all the way and produce a Mazdaspeed2/Demio somewhere down the line, were sure that a manual cog-swapper would be part of the mix. At the very least, we now have a very good idea of what such a car would probably look like.

Would be even cooler if it had some kind of hyper-mpg version, like electric, or diesel-electric.

Overall, very nice and cohesive. Not sure about the rims but the aero-bits look fairly well-integrated.

Nice this is what CRX Should have looked like!
Pontiac should build something like this with more power screw the Vibe it's outdated...who wants 23mpg when a truck gets that?
Give me variable AWD in one of these w/ great MPG and sold!

Right with you on that. I'm in the market for a small sporty car that doesn't suck. I wish I could at least test drive that thing. (sigh)

Ford should do the US a favor (and themselves too) and re-brand this as a Focus for the American market. Or just sell it as a Mazda, I guess it doesn't really matter...so long as we get such a nice looking hatch over here.

This would be a Mini killer and Civic killer if they would offer it in a 2 door version and replace the lame rear torsion beam suspension with a fully independent setup.

pretty much agree with the above, love it. ditch the vent and wheels and you have a winner.
I just bought one myself, a Genki model (mazda.com.au) for more info.
just wish I had those seats =)
