Official shots of the Audi A5 have unceremoniously surfaced on the internet ahead of the car's debut at the Geneva Motor Show next month. The Autoblog staff is divided on the car's styling, with half the crew getting a bit bored with Audi's well-worn design language and the other half impressed with its long elegant lines. Destined to square off with the BMW 3-Series Coupe, the A5 will be armed with a 4.2L V8, six-speed auto and manual transmissions, as well as the corporate DSG gearbox, called the S-tronic in Audi parlance. By the time the A5 arrives however, a new Infiniti G35 Sport Coupe will also be on deck that promises to make the segment's customers hotly contested.

Between this, the new G35 coupe and the CTS coupe (which is rumored to be on its way), BMW should be worried.

Don't think BMW has anything to worry about. New M3 due out in 08-09. 420 hp and looks that are second to none.

Not a bad looking car, I see a lot of the TT in it, but with out rwd drive I doubt it will do much damage to BMW 3 series sales, though I think it can carve out its own niche and identity for itself with its great engine and DSG gearbox

Hello rear end, I think we met before as the current BMW 3 Series Coupe.
hank @ Feb 20th 2007 1:31AM
Audi, make sure you bring the TDI to the States as well!
NoNameDenton @ Feb 20th 2007 1:32AM
I am with you hank, they should bring the TDI here
iibbmm @ Feb 20th 2007 1:39AM
Wow, I can't believe how much I don't like that. I almost never bash new cars for their design, but this is not what I expect from Audi. I hope that it looks better in person.
The front 3/4 view makes me thing Monte Carlo, and the rear 3/4 view makes me think 3 series coupe.

good, a larger audi coupe' perfect, is the S5 or RS5 if they even realsise it, going to cost me an arm and a leg
NoNameDenton @ Feb 20th 2007 1:44AM
More then likely big jim, if you want more performance with the tuned awd you need to pay for it, too bad Audi has not rear wheel drive platforms

Ben (#1)...spot on man. Plus Lexus IS is rumoured to have a coupe variant in pipeline.
Already outdated...this design would have been acceptable in 2000-01.
That's not to say that the car isn't good looking, I think it is easy on the eyes. Yet it just didn't wow me. It's quite boring actually.
They should have used the Nuvolari design on this. Still, A5 will do well, but not great, and I doubt that BMW will lose too much sleep over it. On second thought, maybe they won't appreciate the blatant copying of 3er coupe taillights.
I love the interior however.

I do not think BMW is too worried about the G coupe or the CTS or even this lil number, though these new products might dent the sales a little
Nick @ Feb 20th 2007 1:53AM
Not sure if you know this, but having DSG in a longitudinal configuration is good news indeed for Audi enthusiasts... this hasn't been offered before for a front engined north/south Audi.
Ben @ Feb 20th 2007 2:01AM
In Chicago, I am seeing a lot more of the 328xi coupes than the 335i, so an AWD Audi could do quite well.
G @ Feb 20th 2007 2:03AM
Definitely the worst looking car in its class. Even if Lexus makes a coupe it will be better than this, and the 325 and definietly the G35 beat it.
PoloV @ Feb 20th 2007 2:04AM
This is bad. Very bad. I'm a big Audi fan, I just bought an A4 and was looking forward to the Nuvolari nee A5. This ain't it. It looks like the kind of a design where some new exec comes in and f's up something perfectly fine and sweet just to make his mark. Did Winkertorn step and F my next ride up?
Jim Sanders @ Feb 20th 2007 2:29AM
Totally BMW 3-Coupe!
It's a modded 3-series!
zeroSignal @ Feb 20th 2007 3:19AM
While I agree that this car is not exactly head-turning - I think that the car being understated is the point of it. Audi buyers have never really been extrovert - they've always gone for the understated power, elegance and quality. And this car is exactly that.
I love it. I want one.
HC @ Feb 20th 2007 3:34AM
i wonder what will the price be...
still think the 3-series coupe is the one to beat.
Felix @ Feb 20th 2007 3:49AM
Audi lost all its "understated" cred when they started putting that damn grill on their cars...
C.Y. @ Feb 20th 2007 4:03AM
Looks kinda like a volvo.
