Official shots of the Audi A5 have unceremoniously surfaced on the internet ahead of the car's debut at the Geneva Motor Show next month. The Autoblog staff is divided on the car's styling, with half the crew getting a bit bored with Audi's well-worn design language and the other half impressed with its long elegant lines. Destined to square off with the BMW 3-Series Coupe, the A5 will be armed with a 4.2L V8, six-speed auto and manual transmissions, as well as the corporate DSG gearbox, called the S-tronic in Audi parlance. By the time the A5 arrives however, a new Infiniti G35 Sport Coupe will also be on deck that promises to make the segment's customers hotly contested.

Check out our gallery of high-resolution images for more views of the new Audi A5.

By the time this comes out, you'll be able to get the BMW 335 coupe in AWD. While it is a beautiful car, it is too similar to the BMW 3 coupe. And no RWD available only means more weight, more understeer, and less MPG.

This is bad. Very bad. I'm a big Audi fan, I just bought an A4 and was looking forward to the Nuvolari nee A5. This ain't it. It looks like the kind of a design where some new exec comes in and f's up something perfectly fine and sweet just to make his mark. Did Winkertorn step and F my next ride up?

Does anyone know how many seat belts the A5 has 4 or 5 ?

Do you're research testa- it is coming standard w/ a 6 and it's only an inch longer than the 335 so I doubt it'll compete with the 6 series. It's a good looking car, I can't wait to drive it.

zeroSignal I agree with you. I think this car looks great... maybe not the most original or unexpected, but I think it has a lot of class. Plus, give it some S or RS love and I bet it will shine up pretty nice.

My one fear is that it will be too expensive for what it is, especially if the base engine is Audi's 4.2 V8. My dream car would actually be this car, with Audi's new rear bias awd and engine mounting ethos, but 3/4 or 4/5 the size and with "only" the 3.6 V6 currently in the passat.

I certainly doubt that the 4.2 litre V8 will be the only option - they're certain to have a wide variety of engine options - starting from the 2.0T we see in the Golf GTI (or Audi TT, or pretty much everything from the VW group for that matter..)

That, and a wide range of turbodiesels..

"Why couldn't they take a A4, and take off the rear doors, and call it an A5. I think it would look better. Nice looking interior though."

because this is not the A4 coupe. it is not meant to compete with the 3-series. it's meant to compete with the 6-series. it's smallest engine will probably be either the 4.2L V8 or maybe the 3.6L 6-cylinder. It won't have anything smaller, because it's supposed to be a very upmarket coupe. the S5/RS5 will be in competition with the M6.

In all likelihood, Audi will keep the A4 coupe version as its 3-series fighter, and this will be its upmarket sibling, to fight with the 6-series and the jaguar XK...

by the way, i'm an avid audi lover, and i'm pretty disapointed with the design. I had been waiting for this car for over a year, and to see that this is the final design is not what i was looking for.

Just a week ago, the German Car Blog gave a link to a sketch of what designers thought it would look like, and that car looked amazing. Sadly, this one doesn't stack up...

I think I'd have to see this one in person but anyone notice a solara character line? And why does the last photo show the MMI buttons behind the gear shift when the two pictures before it show the MMI on the dash?

All of you need to see this car going down your street. I’m not even and Audi fan, but this car is so mean. You're in denial if you think this car doesn't turn your head. I give props when they are due and when the A5 is around it’s always due time.
