Ford Mondeo sedan: First official shots

We all went ga-ga last week over surreptitiously snapped shots of the new Ford Mondeo sedan that were taken while the car was filming scenes for the upcoming James Bond film, Casino Royale, in which it has a cameo. Well here are the first official shots of Mondeo sedan, although they weren't officially released from Ford according to Motor Authority. Now, we know this isn't actually the production version of the next Mondeo, it's really a one-off built especially for use in the film. We know this because of a few details that would never make it to market like the body-colored rear diffuser and large, Gallardo-like wheels, among others. And technically this car isn't even a sedan, as the rear glass lifts with the deck lid to make it a five-door hatch. But whatev, The look of the next generation Mondeo sits before you, mark our words. Of course, the closest we'll ever get to it is the front row of our local cinemaplex at the premier of Casino Royale. Damn you, Ford!
(More high res shots after the jump!)

Really really nice car. The only thing I would change about it is the rear end, I would make it slightly longer. Really nice car that should be sold in the US.

If Ford was smart, they'd slap that newly aquired Rover badge on this thing and sell it here as an alternative "Euro" spec line. Anyone remember the Merkur ?
It would be very competative into today's US market, and if they kept it limited and in a reasonable price point, it might just generate the kind of exclusive boutique buzz that Toyota is enjoying with Scion. This market would be older, more educated and have a higher household income and appreciate the Euro-ness of itF
This very vehicle could price higher than the fusion, and still undercut BMWs and Saabs. More competative with a Passat - and more interesting. Sold only in Major markets like NY,LA,Chicago, Seattle,Miami etc, they could have a real hit. The good kind - not like the hits Ford has been taking lately.
I'll take mine in Black with a Brown leather interior, please.

#2. I think those are photos of the hatch, that's why the rear end is a lil bit short.
What to say about the car, it's just great.

Very attractive design. I'm sorry that we won't be seeing these in the states. #2, I think the stubby rear end looks purposful.

Is it me or does the headlights resemble the Lexus GS in the second picture?

This car needs a good engine when it makes it here as well. I think the new 3.5 is too much for this car. Ford should come up with a nice 3.0 V6. Something like Hondas. Good technology and produce around 255 hp.
I'd buy one.

This should be here now as our Ford Fusion or as the Mondeo. With regular Fords this nice there would be absolutely no need for Mercury. In fact there isn't a need for Mercury right now.

This car is not coming here but I do agree with you about the engine. But Ford is such a loser. They made a 3.5 engine and it took them 3 years. They the celebrated after the first prototype with a big gala and invitations. This is sad.
If other companies that come up with engines left and right took three years and threw a party they would be out of business.

tis about as good as it gets form Ford, adn we in the US will not be getting it
shame on Ford for not bringing this here, and then complaining that they can't make any money. go figure
i really like this car. it looks fresh, and somhow it manages to capture my attention better than the Acura TL or the Lexus IS. So maybe Mercury does have a future with this one.

Whats with you ford bashers. Get lost. Ford is awesome. so what they make an engine every generation or so. It allows mechanics and the aftermarket to learn it real well.

I like this car. its beautiful. I totally dig the rims. They look like something off a Lambo.
As far as Ford engines, just wait they are coming.
The 3.5 will replace the 3.0 V6 Duratec, 3.0 V6 Vulcan, 3.8 Vulcan, 3.9 V6 and the 4.2 V6. One engine for 5 engines.
The others will improve too. I trust mullaly. We may get a Ford with a Turbine in it maybe! ;)

Design cues have been taken from aston martin vantage and mazda 3.
The side profile except the C-pillar is from mazda. hoffmiester-ish kink on the C-pillar is from aston martin vantage.
The front is strongly inspired from a cross between previous mondeo and vantage.
The rear is again a cross between vantage and mazda 3, except that the tail light design is adapted from vantage but the basic shape is from ford 500, but much sharpened.
Overall the car looks attractive juicy, tight and inviting. If the interior is warm and nicely done I am jumping in.
