[MUSIC PLAYING]

MIKE AUSTIN: Hi. It's Mike and David here from Autoblog. And we had the Dragster for the day anyway. We wanted to do something fun. We've got the German past versus the German future.

DAVID GLUCKMAN: Representing the past is a Mercedes Benz G63 AMG. The design's from sometime in the 70s. It is a brick with no aerodynamics.

MIKE AUSTIN: And I'm representing the 2015 BMW I8. It's a plug-in hybrid. It's made of carbon fiber. It's proof that the future can be green and fast. All right, let's do it.

[MUSIC PLAYING]

Yeah. Suck it.

DAVID GLUCKMAN: Oh no. No, it's too fast. Too futuristic.

MIKE AUSTIN: I even gave you some on that one. At, like, 70, the BMW totally takes over.

I'm now giving you the handicap of starting on electric power. We'll see if you can finally make it up. Go. As soon as I floored it, it kicked in the gas mode. Come on. Come on. Yes. Yes.

That was in eco pro, I want you to know.

DAVID GLUCKMAN: That was very close.

MIKE AUSTIN: That was very eco professional. All right. So the first run, you jumped the gun. [INAUDIBLE]

DAVID GLUCKMAN: I red lighted. Still going. I was really excited. I'm sorry.

MIKE AUSTIN: And then I decisively won the next three. So to make it fair, I put it, the I8 in eco pro mode for the last one.

DAVID GLUCKMAN: I appreciate that.

MIKE AUSTIN: That was your best time. You did 13.55 at 104.3, only 0.00569 behind me.

DAVID GLUCKMAN: It was neck and neck. I had no idea which one--

MIKE AUSTIN: That was the most fun one.

DAVID GLUCKMAN: Yeah. I enjoyed that.

MIKE AUSTIN: Did we learn anything?

DAVID GLUCKMAN: Absolutely nothing.

MIKE AUSTIN: For Autoblog, I'm Mike Austin with David Gluckman.
