We drive the Genesis G80 Sport to see how the near-luxury sedan stacks up on the road.
Transcript
- So this is the Genesis G80 Sport. How sporty is it? Well, it's got a 3.3-liter turbo V6, 365 horsepower, 376 pound feet of torque. That's pretty sporty, certainly more vigorous in its power delivery than the base V6. And I would say that it is more appropriate for a performance application than the available V8 is.
The handling, it is certainly sportier than the regular Genesis. It corners flatter thanks to the sport-tuned adaptive suspension. But this car's just not rigid enough to deal with that firmer suspension. It just feels kind of nervous and even brittle on even just kind of OK pavement, and then when you hit bumps, it can get a little unpleasant, which kind of cancels out the fact that this is otherwise a pretty pleasant car to drive.
And then there is the steering, which isn't sporty at all. It also does some odd things. When you go around a corner and you set your desired radius, it's almost like it locks into it and then kind of fights you a bit when you try to put it back to center or even just make a mid-corner correction. It's kind of odd and certainly not what you would expect from a performance sedan. So this is sporty and sport-like for Genesis, but in terms of the sports sedan community at large, not quite.
