The 2022 Hyundai Santa Fe PHEV is an attractive, feature-rich SUV. Its plug-in hybrid powertrain pairs a turbocharged 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine with a 66.9-kW electric motor and 13.8-kWh lithium-ion battery, good for a total system output of 261 horsepower, as well as 30 miles of all-electric driving range. While we like it for its power and efficiency, we think its looks both inside and out are what really makes this crossover shine. We love the high-quality materials, the comfortable seating and the helpful, easy-to-use digital displays. Take a closer look at the Santa Fe PHEV in this walkaround video.
TranscriptJOHN SNYDER: Hello, everyone. John Snyder with "Autoblog" here. And in front of me is the 2022 Hyundai Santa Fe plug-in hybrid. And I've been driving this as part of a Hyundai electrified roundup along with these other vehicles. But this one is new to me. I haven't driven the plug-in hybrid before today.
And it is quite nice. So I'll just give you a little walk-around. Let's see, that's locked. But that's where the gas tank is. I love the little sunny badge. Lets you know it's a plug-in hybrid.
Here is the door for the actual plug. It's a nice-looking car. And it's a nice-driving car. Feels pretty sporty but very comfortable and quiet.
And the inside of this car is just fantastic. I love these materials. I think this is all soft touch. This is sort of an interesting plastic, soft plastics. You have these quilted leather seats.
I love how the dash is sort of sculpted and layered. And there's some extra storage right here. It gets a little button-heavy right here. But everything you want is at your fingertips. You've got you drive modes, your drive, your gear select, and then HVAC controls and some redundant touchscreen controls. And got a little charger right there. Phone goes down there.
But yeah, this has just been a really nice vehicle to drive and very nice to sit in. Got a little more storage down there. And then pretty decent, roomy back seat. Back seat passengers have USB ports and a 120-volt outlet, which is great for when you need to get some work done as a passenger.
And then there's this giant panoramic sunroof. This part opens, and the shade closes all the way. Then in the back, we've got a decent amount of space for cargo right there. It's a nice big footprint, pretty tall, not too aggressively raked to impede on taller cargo.
It's got the power-folding rear seats and then room for stuff down there, mobile charger, whatnot. Then your jack, should you have problems out on the road. Another little hideaway right there. But there it is.
