Transcript- While it may not be the most exciting car that debuted at the 2018 New York Auto Show, the 2019 Toyota Rav4 maybe the most important. Now the Rav4 was Toyota's best selling car last year, selling more than 400,000 units. So they really cannot afford to screw this up.
First impressions are pretty great. Now the Rav4 for so long has kind of been a bland, a little milquetoast, but perfectly serviceable vehicle. This draws a lot of influence from the FTAC concept that we saw last year at Los Angeles. It's a very rugged, very like kind of masculine, sharp design. And I really believe it brings some mojo back to Toyota.
There's a lot of influence from other automakers. I particularly see some Volkswagen in the tail lights. But I don't know if it's a bad thing. I really, really think it's a handsome design. And I'm glad Toyota is bringing a lot of influence from their trucks down to their crossovers.
This is the hybrid version. It uses an Atkinson cycle four cylinder, made it to an electric motor. Nobody does hybrids better than Toyota. They've been doing it longer than anybody else. But it's really great. I haven't been excited about a Rav4 probably since the first generation. But it looks pretty handsome inside now.
Let's take a real quick peek inside. It's a really clean design. Japanese design can be sometimes hit or miss. But it looks and feels pretty premium in here. Now Toyota's infotainment system is not one of the best out there. But I really, really think this is going to do well for Toyota, and not just because it's a Toyota.
