BMW unveils new F750 GS and F850 GS sport bikes

BMW is rolling out a veritable fleet of new two-wheel offerings highlighted by two new F-series middle-weight sport bikes, the F750 GS and F850 GS. Both are fitted with the same two-cylinder engine that displaces 853cc, an increase in capacity from the 798cc engines in the F700 GS and F800 GS, their predecessors. Also debuting are a full dresser touring bike, the K1600 Grand America, and the C400X premium midsize scooter.

BMW says the F750 GS is targeted to riders who prefer the sensation and conceptual design of a travel enduro combined with a low seat height, copious power availability and cost-effectiveness. The F850 GS, meanwhile, offers higher power and torque, plus more distinctive touring capabilities and offroad capability. The F750 GS boasts 77 horsepower at 7,500 rpm, while the F850 GS clocks in at 95 hp at 8,250 rpm.

The bikes get two standard drive modes, "Rain" and "Road," plus "Dynamic" and "Enduro" (the 850 also gets an Enduro Pro mode), new telescopic forks, a double-sided aluminum swinging arm with central-spring strut for more sensitive response, and a new, robust steel monocoque bridge frame. Also new is a multifunctional instrument cluster with a 6.5-inch full-color display.

Geared for the great American highway, derived from the BMW K 1600 B and inspired by U.S. custom bikes, the K1600 Grand America, unveiled at EICMA in Milan, is designed for relaxed, luxurious travel. It boasts an elongated side line that slopes down to the rear and a drop-shaped silhouette from the high-rising windshield to the side cases and chrome-plated rear silencers. The topcase gets an integrated passenger backrest and an extra LED brake light, plus an electronically controlled suspension. The bike is powered by a 6-cylinder engine that makes 160 horsepower at 7,750 rpm and 129 foot-pounds of torque at 5,250 rpm, with a top speed of 101 mph.

BMW's C400 X is a premium midsize scooter that targets urban mobility. It comes with a new, highly efficient single-cylinder 350cc engine making 34 horsepower and mated to a continuously variable transmission gearbox and torsionally stiff drivetrain swing arm and automatic stability control. It's built atop a rugged tubular steel frame, with a telescopic fork at the front and two spring struts at the rear to maximize comfort. The scooter also boasts new-to-the-segment connectivity features, including a multifunctional instrument cluster with a 6.5-inch full-color TFT screen as an option, allowing the rider to access the phone or music on the road, or use navigation.
