If you look really, really closely, you'll see that Ford has updated the hot-selling Explorer for the 2018 model year. There's nothing drastic here, but that's fine, because Ford's three-row 'ute is already one of the best-selling vehicles in its segment, and for good reason. So instead of reinventing the wheel, the Blue Oval decided to keep things simple with some trim level changes, a new safety suite, and some fresh colors and wheel options. Oh yeah, and Sport and Platinum models get quad-tipped exhausts.
For 2018, the Explorer is available with an embedded 4G modem with a Wi-Fi hotspot that supports as many as 10 devices at once and projects a signal up to 50 feet away from the vehicle. SYNC Connect allows drivers to locate their cars and check vehicle diagnostics from anywhere. Finally, a new Safe and Smart Package bundles adaptive cruise control, collision warning with brake assist, blind-spot monitoring, cross-traffic alert, lane keeping, auto high beams, and rain-sensing wipers.
That's pretty much it. But if the Explorer's minor updates don't excite you, Ford wants you to know that a lot more SUVs are coming to whet the appetites of millennials and baby boomers across America. "Two sets of consumers – millennials and baby boomers – are driving this growth," says Ford VP Mark LaNeve, "and Ford will be ready with a full portfolio of SUVs to meet their needs."
