An overview of the 2017 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1's exterior.
TranscriptJOEL STOCKSDALE: Hi, everybody. This is Joel Stocksdale for Autoblog. I'm here down in the American southeast with a brand new Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 convertible. I just want to take you around the outside and highlight a few things.
One thing you might notice right off the bat is that the ZL1 features Chevrolet's flow tie, which is a Chevrolet bow tie badge with the hole cut out in the middle. It's there to help more air into the engine. And in fact, most of the front end is there to help more air into the engine to feed the 11 heat exchangers that are on this vehicle.
It's not just in the grill, but also in the hood. The hood is made of aluminum with a carbon-fiber insert, which here is painted black, but you can option it with exposed carbon-fiber weave. And it's a heat-extractor hood.
On track, you can remove the water trays underneath to allow air out. The convertible features a couple of changes from the coupe. Most obvious is the rear wing. The rear wing is actually the one from the Camaro SS.
Due to aerodynamic changes from the top and requiring some place for the antenna, Chevrolet opted to use the smaller wing as opposed to the larger one on the coupe. There are a couple other small changes. The suspension has been re-tuned to accommodate the extra weight of the convertible.
It weighs about 200 pounds more than the standard version. Apparently, that's the case across the line because they all share the same extra reinforcements.
