Tesla Motors has introduced its fifth buyer-referral program that gives owners of the electric vehicles an opportunity to win prizes by luring other customers into the fold. The California-based electric-vehicle maker started the new program July 18 and will run it through Oct. 15. Most notably, Tesla boosted the number of allowable referrals to 10 from five, indicating that some folks may have bumped up against their limits the last time around.
The updated program is pretty similar to the previous ones. In addition to the car-buyer getting a $1,000 credit towards a new Model S or Model X, the referring party gets a raffle entry to win a free Ludicrous P90D Model X for each referral. Multiple referrals mean Tesla swag, while at least five referrals fetches a set of 21" custom Arachnid wheels. And 10 referrals generate an invitation for two to attend the company's next unveiling. Tesla is mum regarding the specifics about its vehicle sales (the company discloses total quarterly sales, but doesn't break them out by month or country), so there's not much known about how many vehicle sales its referral program has produced. That said, one gentleman won a $130,000 P90D Ludicrous Edition Model S last year by helping generate the sales of 188 Teslas. That's about $16 million worth of vehicles sold in a two-month period.
Earlier this month, Tesla said its 2016 second-quarter production of 18,345 vehicles marked a 20-percent increase from 2015, and that almost half of those vehicles were made during the final four weeks of the quarter, indicating a substantial ramp-up. That said, second-quarter deliveries were lower than expected, so it sounds like the company can use all the extra "sales" people it can get.

Awards
Owners who won awards in the program that ended July 15, 2016 will receive email instructions after the Model X drawing on or around July 31. Owners who won invitations to the Gigafactory opening event have already been contacted.

Limits
Related order must be placed between July 18, 2016 and October 15, 2016 and delivered for a referral code to qualify. Pre-owned vehicles are not eligible. Limit of 10 referrals per owner.

A random drawing will be held on or around October 31, 2016 to determine the winner. The winner will be contacted thereafter. Awards are non-transferable and not redeemable for cash. Unfortunately, Ohio and Virginia residents are not eligible for awards.
