RXC Turbo 500R is the fastest Radical ever

View 12 Photos
We've seen numerous automakers call their vehicles "racing cars for the road," but if anyone can really claim the honor, it's Radical. The British automaker has been making barely-legal track machines since the late '90s – but this is its most, uh, radical yet.

It's called the RXC Turbo 500R, and it's based on the company's first closed-cockpit coupe that came out a couple of years ago. A Ford EcoBoost V6 is at the heart of the carbon and tubular steel spaceframe and sits underneath the carbon-fiber bodywork. It's not like the one you'd find in your garden-variety Flex or Explorer. It packs a pair of Garret turbochargers and intercoolers, forged pistons, hand-finished headers, and a retuned ECU to deliver 600 horsepower and 465 pound-feet of torque.

The power's channeled to the rear wheels through a six-speed sequential gearbox, kept in check by 360-millimeter front brakes (330 around back and fully adjustable for both antilock assist and front-rear balance). The whole thing's suspended on double wishbones and pushrods with adjustable dampers. The sum total is the fastest, most powerful piece of machine that Radical has ever made – and that's saying a lot, coming from the company that holds the Nürburgring lap time for (barely) street-legal vehicles, and has for some time.

Radical even brought in the Italian coachbuilders at Aznom to refit the interior in leather, Alcantara, and carbon-fiber, and offers it with a set of custom luggage, as well. Possibly even more enticing, however, is the Nordschleife tutelage from the same people who took the lap record. The course comes as standard with each of the 21 examples of the RXC Turbo 500R that Radical will make.

Radical RXC Turbo 500R
The best of British motorsport engineering twinned with exclusive Italian design

UK extreme road and track car manufacturer Radical Sportscars releases its most powerful and highly-specified car yet at the 2016 Geneva International Motor Show, with the launch of the RXC Turbo 500R.

For the first time the RXC coupé features dramatic lightweight carbon fibre bodywork, enveloping a new high-specification, twin-intercooled variant of the acclaimed Ford EcoBoost V6 engine. This latest-generation powertrain develops over 600bhp and 465lbft for genuine hypercar-rivalling performance - but with purchase and operating costs far below the opposition.

The new carbon bodywork process - first showcased on the RXC Spyder stablemate just a few weeks ago - saves 50kg improving the staggering power-to-weight ratio to over 530bhp/tonne. The EcoBoost now features forged pistons, hand-finished gas flowed cylinder heads and exhaust headers and a revised engine management system for power delivery that is both brutal and progressive.

Bigger 360mm front and 330mm rear fully-floating disc brakes linked to a new Bosch Motorsport ABS braking system result in class-leading stopping ability - twinned with the RXC's legendary mechanical grip and advanced LMP aerodynamics, the RXC Turbo 500R is Radical's fastest-ever track coupe.

The RXC Turbo 500R also features numerous unique styling touches from Aznom Automotive, a progressive Milan-based automotive styling house. Aznom Design Studio was founded in 2006 with the aim of offering a complete automotive tailoring service that draws on technologies from different fields to create unique products. The interior of the RXC Turbo 500R by Aznom is designed to reflect the pure racing roots of the standard car whilst bringing it even closer to a luxurious GT car.

Aznom Automotive have designed the following unique features for this special edition RXC Turbo 500R, limited to just 21 units worldwide:
> Special carbon fibre-framed, Technogel racing seats with adjustable inserts in carbon fibre weave technical fabric and contrast stitching. The cushions are available with different thickness and density to adapt to the owner, using a special gel developed for medical applications
> Alcantara-covered dashboard with contrast stitching
> Leather door panel inserts and detailing with contrast stitching
> Special edition vinyl graphic exterior pack
> Individually-numbered RXC Turbo 500R cockpit plaque

Bespoke Aznom luggage collection
To accompany each car Aznom Design have also created a bespoke luggage set in leather and carbon weave technical fabric, reflecting the unique styling and design touches of the RXC Turbo 500R. The collection comprises of the following items, ideal for the trackday enthusiast and gentleman racer.
> Racing helmet and FHR bag
> Boston holdall
> Driving suit bag
> Document wallet

Advanced driving tuition at the Nordschleife

The RXC Turbo R ownership experience doesn't stop there. The 21 owners will also receive free one-to-one advanced driving tuition at the famed Nürburgring Nordschleife, with the assistance of Radical's Works Team instructors and development staff. As current holders of the Nordschleife production car lap record with the SR8 LM, Radical see no better environment to experience and enjoy the RXC Turbo 500R's performance and handling capability than this 20.8km (12.9 mile) motorsport mecca in the High Eifel.
