Hyundai's Miles Johnson runs through the Apple Watch options for the Blue Link app and the 2016 Hyundai Sonata Plug-In Hybrid.

MILES JOHNSON: I'm Miles Johnson. I'm the public relations manager for the Connected Vehicle Team at Hyundai. And we're sitting in a 2015 Sonata-- 2016 Sonata plug-in hybrid electric vehicle in beautiful Huntington Beach, California. We're on our media junket here today.

So I'm going to show off a few features that we've integrated into our Blue Link app. So one thing with a plug-in vehicle-- you're always kind of worried about the status of your battery and the charge. So what we've done is we've enhanced our Blue Link smartphone app to have a little bit more integration with our plug-in hybrid electric vehicles.

So when I go into Blue Link-- I'll just take you to the Home screen here-- Blue Link allows me to do all kinds of neat things-- remote starts. I can do things like lock the doors, unlock the doors. But specifically, what did we enhance for the plug-in hybrid electric vehicle part is this screen here.

So this takes me in, and it shows me the status of the car. So the charge is 93%. I'm not charging. I've got 24 miles of electric range and about 303 miles of gas range. So it's giving me the current status of the vehicle. I can also do things like set a charging schedule.

So that's essentially all the enhancements we've done for the Blue Link app in relation to our plug-in hybrid electric Sonata. But one other cool thing that we did-- we took the technology that we used for Google Glass, and we integrated it into smartwatches. So now I can perform all kinds of neat functions with my smartwatch.

So this is an Apple Watch, and I've got my Mickey Mouse tapping, kind of cute here. But I tap here on the dial, and this brings me into all my different apps. And I go over to the Blue Link app. And all those same features on the smartphone app are now available with the watch app.

So the point of all that is these phones have gotten bigger and bigger. It might not be in your pocket. It may be buried in your purse. So I don't have to take this out to perform the same function. I can just do it on the watch.

And I can actually do all the Blue Link functions. And I'll show you them all. So I can start the engine. I can lock the doors. I can unlock the doors. I can stop the engine. I can set a parking meter. If I've lost my car in a crowded parking lot, I can flash the lights or honk the horn and flash the lights. I can find my car, and it can also tell me the vehicle status.

The bottom line with the Blue Link smartwatch app is this is just meant to enhance the system in a new way. Hyundai is keeping up with the times. We realize that people are adapting these new technologies, and we want to be a part of that. And we want to be a leader in this industry.
