DAVID GLUCKMAN: Hey, it's David Gluckman here with another Autoblog Shortcut. I'm in the 2016 Chevrolet Malibu, and I want to show you the teen driver system. This is a group of features that's designed to keep teens, you know, young drivers or any new driver from being distracted on the road. So one of the first features that you'll notice is that if you're sitting in the car with it running and with your seat belt off, it mutes the audio. So we're getting this error message here. I'll put my seat belt on, and we should hear the audio come in. And there it is.

You'll also notice that there's a maximum set for the audio on the system. And that is something you can toggle on and off in the menu for the system. So we'll go into that. It's in settings. Down here we see teen driver. And you have to punch in a code number, a pin, so that your kids can't change the settings and get in here. So under manage settings, you see there's audio volume limit, which limits the maximum volume of the audio. And then there's also a teen driver speed warning, where you can change the maximum speed and whether or not the driver gets a warning when they go over that speed.

And data from this is also collected and what they call a report card. So you can see here, we have a button for you to view a report card. It shows that I just drove 16 miles. My maximum speed was 76.3 miles per hour. I had four over speed warnings, so I went over that 52 mile per hour number four different times. I had two forward collision alerts, where it alerted me that I was too close to the car in front me. Stability control activated once, and ABS activated once. I did that just for illustrative purposes, not because I needed to.

Another thing that this does, is when the cruise control is active, you can see me toggling it on and off here, when cruise control is active, it won't let you change the maximum or minimum distance to the next car. So if I press the button to change the distance, it will only let me use the farthest gap, which leaves quite a few car lengths between you and the next car. But of course, that's for safety. So that's about it for teen driver in the Chevrolet Malibu.
