New York Cops Cause Car Accident, Then Arrest Victim

He's now suing the NYPD

A man is suing the New York Police Department after two officers hit a parked car he was sitting in last April, then blamed him for the accident and arrested him for damaging city property.

Brooklyn officers Christopher Oliver and Shazad Shigri sideswiped a parked SUV while driving the wrong way down a one-way street, The New York Post reported. Robert Jackson was sitting in his girlfriend's legally parked Ford Explorer when the accident occurred. He got out of the car and approached the police who began to blame Jackson, saying he was the one who hit their car.

The cops then checked the block for cameras before arresting Jackson and charging him with destruction of city property, disorderly conduct and resisting arrest. Fortunately for Jackson, the officers missed a security camera on the home of Jackson's neighbor. That camera captured the whole bizarre incident.

Charges were dropped to operating a vehicle without a license, though Jackson says he was sitting in the passenger seat and the car was off and in park when the accident occurred. He also had to spend a night in jail. Jackson is seeking unspecified damages from the city.
