Doriano Rombini killed in Italian motorbike race

/
In a cruel twist of fate this weekend, a memorial event for the late Marco Simoncelli has tragically claimed another life. The Sic Supermoto Day was being held in honor of the late Italian rider, killed in a racing accident two years ago, at the Latina circuit in Italy. That's where former grand prix motorcycle racer Doriano Romboni was killed in a practice session when he fell off his bike was struck by another rider during a crash.

Romboni was a proven race winner in the 125cc and 250cc classes in the early 1990s with Honda. He graduated to the 500cc class with Aprilia in 1996, but failed to finish any better than third at the 1997 Dutch TT. Following the crash, Romboni was airlifted to the Santa Maria Goretti hospital nearby, but subsequently succumbed to his injuries. We extend our condolences to the family and friends who survive him.
