Jay Leno's Garage is teaming with electricity now that the Proterra Ecoliner electric transit bus has arrived. The lithium-titanate-powered Ecoliner could well be the type of bus that will revolutionize mass transit. It incorporates elements of Formula One, tank technology and regenerative braking that captures 30 percent of energy that would otherwise be wasted.
But most shocking of all is the Ecoliner's ability to accept a rapid, overhead charge. Proterra equipped the Ecoliner with Altairnano cells that can accept the quickest of charges and the AeroVironment unit that transmits the juice can kick out 1,000 amps.
All this gear makes for an electric bus that can remain in operation for 24 hours a day, seven days a week. As the 18-minute clip after the jump proves, not even deep water is capable of halting the Proterra Ecoliner. All aboard!
