A123 battery packs to power electric vehicle from "major" American automaker

A "major" North American automaker has turned to A123 Systems to supply lithium-ion battery packs for a pure-electric vehicle that's expected to hit showrooms in 2013. A123 chief executive officer David Vieau told the Boston Business Journal that:
There was a competitive environment. We've been selected for it and we're tooling up to go forward.
A123's factory in Livonia, MI is currently pumping out batteries for the undisclosed electric vehicle and apparently even delivered prototypes packs to this "major" automaker in late 2010. As you've probably already guessed, neither the name of the "major" North American automaker nor the specific vehicle have been revealed, but at least we now know that A123's packs will motivate the electrified mystery model.
