Back in July, BMW outlined a multi-year plan that will lead the company to large-scale production of the Megacity Vehicle at its plant in Leipzig, Germany. Between now and 2013 – the year the Megacity is scheduled to launch – BMW will invest around €400 million ($525.8 million U.S. at the current exchange rate) to ready the facility for production of the small electric vehicle. Could the automaker be eying another production facility outside of Germany?

According to a report from Gasoo, BMW will seek out an additional Megacity manufacturing site somewhere in China. The report claims that the German automaker will launch its pint-sized electric in the Chinese market in 2013 and is expected to produce the model locally shortly thereafter. The automaker has not released a specific production timetable and, at this time, it's still unclear whether or not the Chinese-built models will be exported to other markets.
