Audi will launch an all-new A2 in 2012, this is officially confirmed. Additional reports have started to slowly trickle in suggesting that the A2 will be, drum roll please, electric only. You can bet that we're excited about this and hopefully Audi will make an official announcement before the end of the year. For now, we're going with Autocar's report that cites, you guessed it, undisclosed sources stating that the A2 will be an electric competitor to BMW's Megacity that is coming in 2013.

Though we should probably just call this a rumor, there's quite a bit of info that suggests an electric-only A2 is a definite possibility. Audi has hinted that the new A2 could employ something similar to the range-extended EV setup found in the A1 e-tron concept or we could see a full battery-powered setup instead. Additionally, Audi chairman Rupert Stadler has been caught stating that electric drive is a company priority. We suspect that at least one of these rumors will turn out to be true, we'll have to wait to give the electric-only A2 the "officially, official" tag.
