Renault and AutoVAZ considering joint venture to build electric cars

Since Russia is an oil-producing nation, you might not think that it would be a big promoter of electric cars. For the most part, you'd be right, but Renault's chief operating officer, Patrick Pelata, has said that the French automaker is studying whether or not to produce EVs with AutoVAZ. A big push for the plug-ins comes from the Mayor of Moscow, a city that suffers from severe air pollution problems. The discussions are in the early stages, and so no one should expect an AutoVAZ EV anytime soon. Right now, this is more about refloating the brand than actually producing eco-conscious cars in Russia.
