Truck maker PACCAR moving ahead with hybrid development

/
Truck maker PACCAR is the parent company of various brands such as Kenworth, Peterbilt and DAF and they are working aggressively to reduce the fuel consumption of their trucks. For their medium duty trucks, which includes applications like delivery vehicles, dump trucks and trash haulers, they have set a target of thirty percent improvement in efficiency over the next seven years.

In order to achieve that goal, PACCAR is working with Eaton to develop hybrid power-trains for these applications. They plan to have the first production available on selected trucks in 2008. The hybrid systems should allow trucks to spend less time idling while stationary which will help both fuel consumption and emissions in urban areas where these vehicles are often used.
