High gas prices mean Australians are changing lifestyles and riding bikes more often

/
One of the effects of high gas prices in America is a drop in large vehicle sales. In Australia, the high cost of petrol is prompting people get on their bikes and ride to work, according to The Sydney Morning Herald. The newspaper cites rising membership in cycling groups and increased sales at bicycle stores as proof of the switch from gas to pedal power. Overall, the trend in Australia for the last six years has been an increase in the number of people riding bikes. Don't expect the trend to stop, either. The cost of fuel Down Under is expected to rise about 30 cents a liter in the next few weeks.
