Shanghai's 10,000 fuel-cell plans

reports that fuel cell manufacturer Ballard Power Systems and the Shanghai Fuel Cell Vehicle Powertrain Co., Ltd. have agreed to develop fuel cell-powered vehicles for China. The company will integrate fuel cells provided by Ballard into its vehicles as part of the Shanghai government's plan to roll out 1,000 fuel cell vehicles by 2010 and 10,000 by 2012 (Pictured above is the fuel cell-powered Smart II developed by Powertrain). Powertrain expects to start trial runs of its prototypes by 2006 and 2007.
