Senator Hutchison helps break ground at major biodiesel plant in Galveston, Texas

/
Senator Kay Bailey Hutchison (R-Texas) was on hand at the groundbreaking of a new biodiesel production plant in Galveston, Texas Wednesday, although the rain kept everyone indoors. Galveston Bay Biodiesel, backed by Chevron, should have the plant putting out biodiesel made partly from soybeans by the end of the year and the plan is to be able to produce 100 million gallons a year by 2007. Galveston Bay Biodiesel is also partnering with Texas A&M University to "conduct research into new plant-derived feedstocks to be blended into the biodiesel fuel," according to The Daily News of Galveston County.
Hutchison is so far the top recipient of money from oil and gas companies in the 2006 election cycle, according to the Center for Responsive Politics, raking in almost $160,000.
