Gasoline gets some respect in annual 'Green Car' survey

The American Council for an Energy-Efficient Economy released its annual report of the top twelve most environmentally-friendly vehicles for 2006. While the Honda Insight, Civic hybrid, and Toyota Prius placed hybrids in the first, third and fourth slots, respectively, the majority of the vehicles making the "top twelve" list used conventional gasoline engines. These included the Hyundai Accent, Kia Rio/Rio 5, Mazda3 (pictured), and the Chevrolet Cobalt.

The Honda Civic GX, which placed second, uses natural gas.

The conventional vehicles good showing in the study is attributed to technological advances.
