Jury hits Ford for $29 million in rollover trial

/
A Texas jury Friday delivered a verdict of more than $29 million against Ford Motor and Firestone in the case of a young woman rendered quadriplegic after a rollover accident in her Mazda Navajo.
Ford was judged liable for 85 percent of the $29 million, while Firestone is responsible for the remainder. However, Firestone had previously struck an all-inclusive settlement with Ford, to the tune of $240 million, so the automaker will be responsible for the settlement in this case and any others going forward.

Ford will appeal the verdict, saying that the accident was due to driver error, and that failure to wear a seatbelt contributed to the severity of the injuries.
