Ford is still struggling to produce a sufficient quantity of redesigned
cruise-control switches for the millions of 1994-2002 pickups and SUVs that were
recalled for a potential fire risk. Originally, it was thought that the new parts would be ready for installation by mid-October, but the company is now saying that parts will not be available until February 2006. Some vehicles were fixed by adding a fuse to the switch’s wiring harness; other vehicles had their problems temporarily addressed by unplugging the switch, and those vehicles are the ones awaiting the new part.
