Gen Y gets automakers' attention

A study released today by California-based AutoPacific Research shows that the youngest car buying group - Generation Y - have the same values as older car buyers, but very different tastes.
Gen Y buyers (ages 18-28) want high value, affordable to operate, durable cars that they can be proud to own. Sounds like any car buyer, right? But pride of ownership translates into car preferences that must have Detroit worried.

The vehicles with the highest percentage of Gen Y buyers: Acura RSX, Mitsubishi EVO and Scion tC. The Chevrolet Cobalt was the only car from the Big 3 to crack the top 10.

Why does this matter? This segment of the population represents over 70 million prospective car buyers.
